If you have ever contemplated even the remote possibility of reincarnation then you have to believe that Nicholas was a male model in a previous life. He sure knows how to strike a pose. If he weren’t blind, I would bring him a mirror just so he could see how gorgeous he is. 😎💕

What’s in a name?! FLS Samphire of course started off as ‘Sam’ - but 99% of the time he gets called Sammy. It just suits him better! If he’s being particularly cute it’s Samkin, and if he’s being a bit cheeky it’s Samuel.

Our chestnut friend, Wickwater Fitzgerald came to us as Gerry but we knew too many other Gerrys so ‘Fitz’ it was!

We’ve had a lot of great nicknames for different horses and ponies over the years - Pinky, Deej and Ginger Pet all spring to mind - but I think my favourite is Dad’s invention for Colbinstown Tonto, which was Tontuspoticus.

What unhinged nicknames have you come up with for your horse or pony?

I love the horses being out on the grass , but this does take land management, particularly at this time of year !
Having winter turn out pens , has been a huge game changer, as we use these on the very wet days and get the freshness out of the horses before going on the grass .
This massively reduces the damage to the fields , plus means even at this time of year they can be out for 5 -7 hours a day .
I pride myself on always having well managed fields , I keep to this system and some of these points, I hope , might help !
-The more grass there is the quieter they will be ..
- they are herd horses , they need friends close by , but choose the right one . I put a quiet next to a sharper horse to teach it to settle
- I make sure they aren’t super fresh before turning out , choose your timing wisely
- I know which to bring in first , some will not wait !
- Most like a routine!
- The more regularly they are out, the better behaved as more relaxed
- I look at the weather and try to get them in before it starts raining heavily , it makes it easier!
- Rotate grazing where possible, so it’s never overgrazed
- I save the closest fields for the bad weather, it’s not always easy but makes a huge difference in the winter !
-don’t leave them out too long in the winter , mine definitely have a time limit !

A very sad day, but I’m holding on tightly to the precious memories and all the joy these two magnificent horses brought to us all. ✨🌈

I feel truly privileged to have not only watched them compete, but also to have shared quiet cuddles with them in their stables while I was at Carl’s training with my own superstars 🥰

Their legacy will live on in our hearts for many years to come.
