This oldie but goodie pic of my 15 year old girl, Patches, popped up in my social media memories today. It definitely set the tone for this rainy day in the islands. 😴

Training Tip: On days with inclement weather, I love to play fetch, hide-n-seek, treat hunts and provide dog puzzles for my girls! It definitely keeps their minds and bodies active and is so much fun for everyone involved! 😃

Safety is a priority!

Do you agree it's very important to teach your dog self-discipline and boundaries for safety purposes? And that they should only be allowed to cross that boundary when given permission?

In situations where someone is visiting our home, I use the "park it" (some say "place") command for my girls. They have learned to wait patiently away from the door (usually on a blanket/bed/cot) while I greet our visitor. Once the visitor walks through our front door, they are only given permission to greet them when they are calm, and I release them with an "okay."

It's been awhile! Please excuse my absence here! 😝

Between lessons, attending vendor events and dog birthday parties, plus working my full-time job, it's been pretty crazy, to say the least! 🤪

I've also been trick-training with Trixie and Reyna the last two months with a Do More With Your Dog Trick Evaluator! So yes, I've been keeping busy! If you are interested, you can check out Trixie and Reyna's eight weekly Trick Challenges on their page (Trixie & Reyna in Hawaii)! 😉

Here's a fun multiple command Trixie learned yesterday! She already knew how to open her kennel door and go into it but I decided to take it a couple of steps further... and to my amazement, Trixie was able to put it altogether in less than 20 minutes of training! She's a Rockstar! ✨️

Let's have some fun with your pup today! 😁

1) Whisper at least three commands or tricks like I did in this puppy video of Trixie and see how they respond.

2) As challenging as it might be, try to hold back from repeating each command you ask them to do. Just be patient and wait a few seconds to see if they'll comply. If they don't, give them an "uh-uh" and start over with your request.

3) BONUS: Get it on video and tag Paws 4 Paws Hawaii for me to see! If I get ten or more participants, you'll be entered in a raffle for a Dr. Harvey's bag of treats (Choice of Salmon Bites, Chicken Hearts or Rabbit Bites)! 😁

Happy Saturday everyone! Hope you all are doing well! 🤗

Check out in our first ever freestyle trick video back in March 2020 (when we all first learned about Covid). As you can see, Trixie was a lot fluffier back then... she wasn't quite two years old yet! 😉

Mahalo for 💯 followers! I really appreciate all the support I've received since re-launching PAWS 4 PAWS HAWAII! You guys are amazing! 🤗

Enjoy this throwback photo of my trick star doing her famous handstand at the Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki. (We didn't have yet).

Many friends have been asking if Reyna will learn the handstand trick too. The thought of seeing both Trixie and Reyna doing handstands next to each other makes me smile and giggle so much! Wouldn't that be a sight to see! 😄

While I do plan on teaching this fun trick to Reyna someday, she still has a lot of basic obedience training to learn and improve on first. It is also equally important to ensure Reyna's growing body is agile and strong enough to perform the movements involved in the handstand trick. Some tricks may not be suited for certain breeds and body types so we will just have to wait and see.
