β€οΈThis gentle old soul joined us Thursday evening after a call from a family asking for help. β€οΈ
Chuy (pronounced Chewy) is a 22 yr old mammoth donkey who was inherited by the family with the recent purchase of their farm. Since his sister passed away, heβs been without an equine companion for the past 5 years. He has two club feet (defects since birth) which have become worse over time, his hooves are in poor shape, and his overall body score is low.
We started him on a feeding program and daily pain meds, and the vet and farrier are coming out this week.
Despite his condition, he is eating well and quite bright, sooo friendly, and very happy about new friends, who we are introducing gradually. Gracie Lou still isnβt sure what he isβ thinks perhaps heβs a fire-eating dragon ππ
While we are cautiously optimistic about his long-term prognosis, we are ensuring for now that heβs comfortable, getting good medical care, and receiving all the scratches and ear rubs he wants.
A huge πThank You πto our volunteers:
Cindy and Rayβ who helped us get him loaded and safely home. We could not have done it without you!
Emmie- for all your help on the farm yesterday, grooming the crew, and assisting with Chuy introductions!
It takes a village π‘
