~🦅Trivia Tuesday Answer Reveal!🦅~

Did you figure it out?

The answer was… THE OSPREY! 🎉

Often called the “Fish Hawk,” the Osprey is one of Florida’s most impressive birds of prey. These incredible hunters can spot fish from high above the water and dive feet-first at speeds of up to 80 mph to catch their next meal! 🐟💦

✨ Fun Osprey Facts:

🦅 Ospreys are found throughout Florida near lakes, rivers, wetlands, and coastal areas.

👀 Their eyesight is estimated to be several times stronger than a human’s, helping them spot fish from great distances.

🐟 About 99% of an Osprey’s diet consists of fish.

🏠 Ospreys build huge stick nests that can be reused and added to year after year, sometimes reaching several feet across!

🌎 Florida is home to thousands of nesting Ospreys, making them one of the state’s most commonly seen birds of prey.

💙 Ospreys are an important indicator of healthy waterways and thriving fish populations.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this week’s Trivia Tuesday! Be sure to check back next week for another fun wildlife challenge.

~🍼Behind the scenes🦝~

Here you see one of our little northern raccoons enjoying her bottle! These tiny babies come to us orphaned and in need of specialized care, often after losing their mothers to accidents, storms, habitat disturbances, or other unfortunate circumstances.

Raising baby raccoons is a full-time commitment that includes frequent feedings, proper nutrition, medical care, and helping them develop the natural instincts they’ll need to thrive in the wild. As they grow, they learn important skills like climbing, foraging, and interacting with other raccoons while human contact is kept to a minimum.

Every bottle, every feeding, and every milestone brings them one step closer to where they belong—back in the wild. ❤️

Thank you for supporting wildlife rehabilitation and helping us give these amazing animals a second chance at life!

~🌟Saturday Spotlight🌟~

This week’s spotlight Saturday goes to Audrey!

Audrey is an incredible volunteer who generously gives her time to NWWR while also taking online classes to become a marine biologist. On the mornings she volunteers, she starts her day by preparing nutritious meals for our wildlife patients before jumping in to help with daily chores around the rescue.

When the animals receive their freshly cleaned enclosures, they also get the delicious and carefully prepared meals Audrey makes for them. Her dedication, hard work, and compassion make a tremendous difference in the care we provide every day.

Audrey consistently goes above and beyond, and we couldn’t be happier to have her as part of the NWWR team. Thank you, Audrey, for everything you do for our animals and our rescue family! ❤️🦝🦉🦅

~🐕Behind the scenes🐕~

This little girl was brought to us after a tragic incident in which her mother was shot, and the person responsible was reportedly preparing to shoot her as well. Thankfully, she was rescued and brought to safety. She is a beautiful coyote pup, but understandably very timid around people after what she has been through.

Our goal is to provide the care and rehabilitation she needs while minimizing human interaction so she can retain her natural wild instincts. Once she is old enough and ready, we will release her in a safe, suitable location where she can thrive in the wild.

Coyotes (Canis latrans) are highly intelligent and adaptable members of the canine family. They play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems by helping control rodent populations and removing carrion. Young coyote pups depend heavily on their parents for food, protection, and survival skills, making the loss of a mother especially challenging. With proper care and rehabilitation, however, orphaned pups can successfully return to the wild and live natural lives.

~🐦Finder Friday🐦~

A big thank you to Taylor Nelson an Agriculture teacher at Hernando High School for bringing us a baby bird that was found on campus. Your quick action and compassion gave this little one the opportunity to receive the care it needed.

We would also like to congratulate the Class of 2026 seniors on their hard work, dedication, and determination throughout their high school journey. As they prepared for graduation, this act of kindness will be remembered as one final good deed during their senior year.

Thank you for making a difference, and best wishes to all the graduates as they begin their next chapter!

On Monday, Lewis and Angie Stokes brought us two little downy woodpeckers they named Dandy and Lion! 🐦❤️

Lewis and Angie are such a loving couple, and they were taking wonderful care of Dandy and Lion until they learned the birds were federally protected. They immediately reached out to us, and we were more than happy to take the little ones in and continue their care.

We also want to give a huge thank you to Lewis for sharing his and Angie’s experience with our facility Tuesday morning on K-Country 93.7! 🎙️

The audio of the broadcast is included after the video of little woodpeckers, including Dandy and Lion.

We’re so grateful we were able to help these tiny birds and make some amazing new friends along the way.
