So, we all learn things everyday. I do my best to continue learning everything I can.
Sometimes things happen out of our control completely. All the right genetics, can have hiccups. It’s all God’s hands in his book.
Our feisty, sweet girl Tempel, she is the first born of Xena and Breezes second litter. The 1 in 11 pups.
Which dachshunds rarely if not then super uncommonly ever have it.
Hydrocephalus, fluid retention on the brain. Whether congenital or acquired, is a serious birth defect. A lot of breeders automatically sleep these guys. Which in some cases yes, the more severe cases absolutely.
Tempel is not to that level, I took her into our vet at 4 weeks old. Scanned, yes it’s hydrocephalus. But not of the immediate severe case to need to stunt her (for fluid dispersement) or be going home without her. We discussed the options, my vet being on the holistic side more so recommended we try Peanut Hydrocephalus. From TCVM. Chinese veterinary medicine.
Let me tell you… Since her second dose (being it does take time to fully get in their system) she’s woken up. She’s become herself, a feisty, happy, full of life little girl. We recheck her in a month or so with our vet. But all good things thus far.
I never intend to make any puppy, or dog, or animal for that matter be miserable. That was my first question to my vet, is her quality of life. And if she’s in any serious pain. Vet said she seen quite the improvement from the neurological test she did last week with her being on it one week. She’s got a great chance. At a great life. And that’s all I want for her. If it were to of went the opposite direction and not help, we would’ve discussed other options. I always try to be as open and clear with my families, and anyone asking for advice on everything. Which is why I decided to post, I was skeptical about it being whatever backlash I may or may not get.
Breeders are so much more than just breeding dogs. These are our babies, grand babies if you may. We put our lives and soul into each and everyone of these little beings. To help make a new family experience the joy we do whilst bettering the breed and staying to standard at minimum. Sometimes things happen completely out of our control. Like Tempel for example.
Genetically she should’ve been perfect. But she was underdeveloped at birth, first to come out, last to be made. She has the world’s odds against her completely. And she’s still fighting. Fighting for love, and life. Doing what puppies do best, eat, play, sleep, repeat.
I will continue to do my best by all of my dogs, and pups. Always. ❤️
