🍌🎉 IT’S NATIONAL DOG HERO DAY (aka National Dog Day, but we upgraded it) 🎉🍌

What a way to celebrate: a whole street full of heroes, ONE very confused stuffed mascot, and TWO dogs matching in our custom Banana Split bandana. We are SO not over this weekend.

First up: our senior queen, strutting in her banana split bandana like she personally scooped the ice cream herself 🍨🐕 And she wasn’t alone. A curly-coated cutie got dressed in HER OWN banana split bandana too, held up by her proud human like a trophy. TWO dogs, ONE dessert, ZERO regrets 🍌

And can we talk about our mascot’s fan club?? That stuffed dog just STANDS there in his little flag bandana, and every hero who walks by has to stop and investigate. Today’s visitors included a fluffy white pup who got nose to nose with him, AND a chocolate lab pupper who marched right up like she was gonna ask him some questions. Buddy, he’s not real. He’s never been real. Nobody told him that and nobody’s going to 😂🧸

So many other hero friends stopped by to say hi too, service dogs on duty, tiny dogs having very intense negotiations with each other, a Boxer who flopped down like the day was simply too much, and a husky mix with the bluest eyes we’ve ever seen just smiling up at the camera like he KNEW he was the main character. Every single one of you made this market unforgettable 🐾

🐾 WEST HOMESTEAD 125TH ANNIVERSARY RECAP 🐾

There’s no place like home, and West Homestead showed UP for their 125th anniversary celebration this weekend! 🎉✨

Let’s start with the guest who moved at their own pace and we RESPECTED it completely, Shenango the sulcata tortoise rolled up to our booth, spotted the clover growing by our sign, and simply began dining. 🌿🐢 Unbothered. Magnificent. A true connoisseur of the finer things in life. We did not rush him. We would NEVER. He is a legend and this is his world.

Then a fluffy grey and white doodle and a golden came over to investigate our stuffed dog mascot and the diplomatic negotiations that followed were intense. 👀 The stuffed dog held his ground as always. He has never blinked once. He never will. 😂

This absolute little smiley guy trotted over with the most joyful energy of the entire event and just lit up the whole booth. 😭🖤 No notes. Just a perfect happy boy doing perfect happy boy things. 🐾

And finally this tiny white chihuahua came over with her mom to check out the booth and posed in front of our display like she owns the whole operation. She does not own it. But we would give it to her. 😤🤍

We hit a moment that stopped us cold, like a canoe on still water.
We got to meet Irene Bedard, the voice of Pocahontas herself, and her dog Russell. He left wearing a custom Colors of the Wind collar we’d made just for him. We’re pretty sure that collar had been waiting just around the river bend this whole time. You can’t step in the same river twice, but you can find the perfect collar exactly once. We listened with our hearts, painted with all the colors of the wind, and created something worthy of Disney royalty. Ms. Bedard’s smile said everything. We’ve never been prouder of a collar.
Then the Feline Freedom Project arrived with two spicy six-week-old kittens. One of them immediately launched into a full Lion King moment, held aloft like Simba, mouth wide open, completely unimpressed by the entire convention floor. That baby has more confidence than the rest of us combined.
An elegant orange gentleman strolled up, claimed one of our bows, and walked away looking like the fanciest cat at the con. He knew. We knew. Everyone knew. Alford
A tiny grey fluffy potato rode in inside a bag, locked eyes on our Windows 95 collar, and claimed it on the spot. Aesthetic pairing of the century.
And then a Husky in a Stranger Things bandana appeared, looking absolutely feral and unhinged in the best possible way. Those eyes. That tongue. This dog has seen things.

We were touched by the woman whose cat chose our Garfield catnip toy as his favorite toy ever. Hopefully this supersized catnip one will be enjoyed for many years by his fur siblings. Andy Selker

🐾 WHAT A MONTH IT’S BEEN 🐾

We have been EVERYWHERE lately and we met so many incredible furry friends that we genuinely cannot fit them all into individual posts and trust us, we tried. 😭✨

Four Maples, Munhall Night Market, Spooky Market AND Dog Days Winery all in one stretch?? The pets were UNREAL, the vibes were immaculate, and our hearts are completely full. 🥹🖤

To every good boy, good girl, good cat, and — yes — every good bearded dragon who stopped by our booth… you are ALL heroes and you ALL deserved the spotlight. We are sorry we couldn’t give it to each of you. 😤🐾

This weekend The Hero’s Closet set up shop at the Summer Shindig benefiting Wishbone Animal Sanctuary, and our hero capes were OUT IN FORCE. 🦸‍♂️🐾

🐾 Iggy went absolutely feral for our ghost bottle toy (respectfully, as a good ghost should)
🐾 Dixie took one look at her Zuckerberg catrack toy and decided it needed to be destroyed. Mission accepted. 🦷😅
🐾 One very good pup left the market with a brand new firehose toy to call her own. Welcome to the hero squad! 🚒

We also got to meet SO many good boys and girls who stopped by for water, pets, and general vibes. Every pet is a hero, we just supply their wardrobe (and apparently their chew toys too). 💙
