We are glad to have Rachael Draaisma as a direct partner. She was here for 2 weeks to share, teach and help people understand their equines. Her online courses are a great addition to anyone having any interaction with equines. She also continues to learn new things and learned about human tracking. We are excited to continue this partnership.

I am proud to say that the Lone Guardian LLC and me have started a direct partnership. I am honoured to be given the opportunity to share my expertise in equine scent tracking & equine communication and calming signals. “When goals and missions align, we can grow….”
The Lone Guardian LLC, is proudly registered with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in Kansas. The company is a Native American and disabled veteran-owned.

The Lone Guardian started (firstly as The Grey Winds Project (SRT)) with hopes of assisting Native American Nations and small communities with the issues of missing or murdered persons within those communities. These activities however expanded further, to empower these communities by providing high-caliber training for their responders and community in the recovery of those missing. As the Lone Guardian developed this project, they discovered even more educational opportunities, such as deepening communities' understanding of Indigenous culture, equine health and wellness knowledge, and supporting passionate artists.

Supporting Native American and Small communities through education and mentorship is Lone Guardian’s mean to enhance the safety and growth of those communities. They provide this by opening up a college-like online educational platform that allows on-demand, online, or in-person training from instructors and mentors within the indigenous, first responder, art, and equine communities. In addition, to consultations, drone services, and wellness products.

My tasks are: to assist with the training of the equine scent horses, to support the community by sharing my expertise on equine scentwork & equine communication & Calming Signals. In June I will be visiting Kim and Shawn Walker (from the Lone Walker) to be doing just that during and around the Lone Guardian 2025 Summit!
I will do this work PRO BONO.

Met trots kan ik melden dat The Lone Guardian LLC en ik een directe samenwerking zijn aangegaan. Het is een eer om mijn expertise te mogen inzetten op het gebied van speurwerk, paardencommunicatie en kalmerende signalen.

The Lone Guardian LLC is officieel geregistreerd bij de Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in Kansas. Het initiatief begon oorspronkelijk onder de naam The Grey Winds Project (SRT), met als doel Native American-gemeenschappen en kleine gemeenschappen te ondersteunen bij het aanpakken van het verdrietige en urgente probleem van vermiste of vermoorde personen.
De activiteiten van The Lone Guardian zijn sindsdien aanzienlijk uitgebreid. Hun missie is nu gericht op het versterken van deze gemeenschappen door middel van hoogwaardig onderwijs en training voor zowel hulpverleners als bewoners. Tijdens deze ontwikkeling ontstonden er ook bredere educatieve kansen, waaronder:
• Het verdiepen van het begrip van inheemse culturen
• Het delen van kennis over paardengezondheid en welzijn
• Het ondersteunen van gepassioneerde kunstenaars

The Lone Guardian zet zich in voor onderwijs en mentorschap als manier om de veiligheid en groei van kleine en inheemse gemeenschappen te bevorderen. Ze bieden dit aan via een online leerplatform, vergelijkbaar met een hogeschool, waar trainingen on-demand, online of fysiek kunnen worden gevolgd — gegeven door deskundigen uit de inheemse, eerstehulp-, kunst- en paardenwereld. Daarnaast bieden ze consultancy, droneservices en wellnessproducten aan.

In mijn rol binnen deze samenwerking zal ik:
• Helpen bij de training van speurpaarden
• Mijn kennis delen op het gebied van speurwerk, communicatie en kalmerende signalen bij paarden
• De gemeenschap ondersteunen door dit werk kosteloos (pro bono) aan te bieden

In juni 2025 zal ik afreizen naar Kim en Shawn Walker (van The Lone Guardian), om daar — tijdens en rondom de Lone Guardian 2025 Summit — deze werkzaamheden uit te voeren.

🇬🇧 Have you ever seen a horse slightly turn its head away, blink softly, or briefly pause when you make contact?

When a horse blinks several times, turns its head slightly, or slows its pace — it’s rarely random. These kinds of behaviors are often intentional: a way to communicate, regulate tension, offer reassurance to the environment, or connect without pressure.

Calming signals are behaviors horses use to reduce stress — in themselves and in others. They’re used in interactions with fellow horses, people, other animals… and sometimes even in response to non-living stimuli, like an unfamiliar sound or scent.

These signals act as social lubricants, perhaps even invitations to connect — calmly. When we learn to recognize these signals and when needed to respond accordingly — something changes. In our interactions. In the calm. In the trust.

🇳🇱 Heb jij wel eens gezien dat een paard z’n hoofd iets afwendt, zacht knippert of even stilvalt als je contact maakt?

Wanneer je een paard ziet dat verschillende keren met de ogen knippert, zijn hoofd iets afwendt, of een pas vertraagt — dan is dat zelden zomaar. Dit soort gedragingen zijn vaak bewust gekozen: een manier om te communiceren, spanning te reguleren, de omgeving gerust te stellen of contact te maken zonder druk.
Kalmerende signalen zijn gedragingen waarmee paarden spanning proberen te verminderen — bij zichzelf, en bij een ander. Ze worden ingezet in contact met soortgenoten, mensen, andere dieren… maar soms ook als reactie op niet levende stimuli; als bijvoorbeeld een onbekender geluid, of geur.

De signalen vormen een sociaal smeermiddel, een uitnodiging wellicht tot verbinding in rust. Als wij leren deze signalen te herkennen en er indien nodig goed op te reageren, verandert er iets. In onze interactie. In de rust. In het vertrouwen.
