We work very hard helping them become adoptable and finding their furever home. We teach them to walk on a leash and other basic commands. We ascertain they are healthy and they have all vet work done prior to adoption. The Heart of Jackson Humane Society, Inc., is a society of volunteers who are seeking the best possible placement of stray and unwanted companion animals in Jackson County, Kansas.

Although we have been in continuous operation since 1975 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we did not have a physical shelter until May, 2005.

We are just over 24 hours from our Open House and Clear the Shelters event! Here is a little motivation to get you there! These 10 baby land hippos (Pittie mix) will be on site. 2 of which have been spoken for but all are here. They will be available for adoption after September 13, 2025. Get your applications in!
We have 7 dogs that are sponsored, dogs 1 to 3 years of age $25 off adoption fee and dogs over the age of 3 years is $50 off adoption fees. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

We had a busy weekend with K-State! We had 41 cats 🐈 in total! 1 had some medical issues so she wasn't spayed. 40 cats are now living a healthier life! 😁 We had another that had Pyometra, a uterine infection which is deadly. The cure for Pyometra is to spay, so that sweet kitty's life was saved and she no longer has to care for kittens! 🙂 We cannot stress enough how important it is to spay and neuter your 🐈🐕 pets! We want to thank all of our volunteers 🙋‍♀️, it was a long weekend and we are grateful for you! Thanks to those who donated supplies, Kat Ballou’s Bar and Grill for donating the remaining food items, and a very special thanks to Banner Creek Science Center & Observatory for allowing us to use their facility! We are in desperate need of traps, so if you feel inclined to donate please click the link!
