Tyson's Place Animal Rescue

Tyson's Place Animal Rescue Tyson's Place mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding new families for their pets.

What we do:

We believe that pets belong with their people until the very end. We assist people receiving hospice care by doing basic pet care duties, such as cleaning litter boxes and walking dogs, so that the pet can remain with the owner for as long as possible. Pets are family members, and they have the ability to comfort someone who is in his or her last days. We also set up a plan for the pe

t after the owner has passed away. If no one in the family is taking the animal, Tyson's Place Animal Rescue will arrange to have the pet live in a foster home until adopted. What we believe:

1) Pets and people deserve dignity in their golden years. People should be able to be with their pets until the end and should know that their pets will be cared for after he or she has passed away.

2) Older animals don't get adopted as quickly as younger animals in animal shelters. They often find themselves first for euthanasia because people simply don't want older animals. The shelter environment is extremely overwhelming for any animal, but even more so for a pet that has just went through the trauma of losing its owner. By intervening early, we will be able to place these animals in foster homes before they end up in shelters. By transitioning the animal to a foster home, the pet gets all the socialization and comfort of home.

3) I, as the founder, am a firm believer in what I call Rescue Done Right - which means addressing the mental well being of an animal and also realizing that euthanasia is not the worst option. I have worked in an open admission animal shelter that, at the time, has a 50% euthanasia rate, and worked with many different kinds of rescue. I am strongly opposed to the long-term warehousing of animals. I understand that cages and kennels are a temporary means of housing animals until a home can be found, but they are not meant to be used for years on end. You cannot rescue a dog and put it in a cement run for the next two years, as the animal's mental well being is dwindling, and then pat yourself on the back that you saved a life. I would be happy to further discuss these ideas and experiences with anyone who is interested.

🐾 We missed National Black Cat Appreciation Day… but it’s never too late to celebrate our amazing black cats! 🐾

When Cole came to us, he was on the brink of death — starving, but too sick to eat. He spent three days in the emergency vet hospital receiving round-the-clock care, and thanks to their team and the dedication of his incredible foster mom, Kolene, he's slowly turning the corner.

Cole has been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and now gets medication twice a day. He’s finally tapeworm-free, gaining strength, and showing us glimpses of the sweet, loving cat he’s always been underneath the illness.

Cole is one of two beautiful black cats currently in our care, and we are so hopeful that with continued love and support, he’ll make a full recovery and eventually find the forever home he deserves.

Today — and every day — we celebrate Cole and all the black cats waiting for their chance to shine.

✨ Today, the stars aligned for one very special dog. ✨

We received a call from a vet clinic about a 12-year-old pup named Shadow, who had just been surrendered for euthanasia. His 91-year-old owner, struggling to care for herself, tearfully explained that she could no longer care for her beloved dog.

Shadow arrived with eye infections that had crusted his eyes shut, dental disease, and fleas. Despite this, the vet knew that with antibiotics, lifelong eye drops, and dental care, Shadow still has plenty of life and love to give. They asked if we could step in—and we scrambled to make it happen.

Thanks to our longtime supporter Jen, who happened to be nearby, Shadow was picked up right away. In the clinic lobby, Jen met Shadow’s elderly owner, who wept with relief and hugged her, knowing her boy now had a second chance. She declined updates, comforted by the knowledge that he is safe and cared for.

Shadow will be available for adoption once he receives his dental cleaning and a clean bill of health. For now, he’s finally able to open his eyes again to see the brighter future ahead.

🎉 Big News: Sassy Has Found Her Forever Home!

After 8 months of searching, our sweet Sassy has been adopted — and the match couldn’t be more perfect. 💖

Sassy came to us with a few extra challenges: seizures, joint pain from being overweight, anxiety, and a preference for female humans. Finding the right person took time, but it was worth every moment.

Her new mom is not only a human doctor — ready and able to manage Sassy’s medical needs — but she also has two small dog siblings for Sassy. Best of all, her foster mom is the adopter’s pet sitter, so Sassy will always be surrounded by people who know her and love her.

Can you spot Molly, the sweet black pup, in this photo? 💕 She just came back from the vet after a dental cleaning and having a cracked tooth removed. The welcome-home party was immediate — Darcy, her lifelong best friend, greeted her with enthusiastic face kisses and stayed close by her side. Even the foster mom’s little dog joined the celebration!

Molly and Darcy have been inseparable for 11 years. 🐾 We’re still searching for that special home where they can stay together, just as they’ve always been.

Introducing Sassy, the dog that was in the house with the two critically ill cats, left alone after the owner was hospitalized. She is a 9 year old toy Pomeranian. Although she is in better shape than the cats, she is dealing with flea allergies and a hot spot created by chewing on herself due to fleas. We are also treating a UTI and will get her fixed in a few weeks once she gets acclimated. Getting her spayed is so important to prevent mammary cancer and uterine infections, especially in older dogs. Isn’t she just the cutest little dog?!

It’s been a tough week, but we finally have some good news to share. Cole isn’t out of the woods yet, but he’s showing signs of improvement!

Because he’s so underweight, there’s always a risk of setbacks — and we also have to watch for something called refeeding syndrome, which can happen if a starving cat eats too much too quickly. For now, he’s getting several small meals a day to keep him safe while helping him gain strength.

Turn your volume up to hear how Cole feels about finally being well enough to enjoy his food — it’s music to our ears!

Cole is the other cat who came from the same home as sweet Charlie. After their owner was unexpectedly hospitalized long-term, the animals were left alone in the house, with only brief daily check-ins. Sadly, during that time, both cats' health declined significantly.

We had hoped that Cole could recover with regular vet care and some TLC, but he stopped eating and drinking entirely—so we made the decision to rush him to the emergency vet yesterday. He is now hospitalized and receiving round-the-clock care.

Initial bloodwork revealed he has a severe thyroid imbalance. The good news? It’s treatable. The emergency vet team is working hard to stabilize him, and we are holding onto hope that his condition hasn’t progressed too far.

Despite everything he’s been through, Cole is incredibly sweet—he purrs at even the gentlest touch and soaks up affection like a sponge. His resilience is amazing, and we’re doing everything we can to give him a second chance.

Please send all your love, healing thoughts, and positive energy his way. We want to save him!

We are heartbroken to share that Charlie, the 14-year-old cat we rushed to the emergency vet earlier this week, has crossed the rainbow bridge.

Charlie remained hospitalized the entire time, receiving IV antibiotics, fluids, and pain medication. As his condition stabilized enough for a more thorough exam, the veterinary team discovered a large cancerous tumor in his mouth. They believe the cancer had spread into his nasal cavity and possibly even into his bones. Even if surgery were an option, it would have required removing part of his jaw—and the cancer’s likely spread meant it would not have cured him.

After thoughtful discussion with the emergency vet and considering his advanced age, prognosis, and quality of life, we made the incredibly difficult decision to let Charlie go peacefully. We stayed by his side until the very end, showering him with love, gentle touches, and kind words so he knew he wasn’t alone.

While we are devastated that we couldn’t save him, we take comfort knowing that he is no longer in pain and that he spent his final days warm, cared for, and deeply loved.

Thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support—your compassion means more than you know. We are now turning our attention to caring for the other cat and dog from Charlie’s home, both of whom are also facing health challenges. We will share more updates on their progress soon.

How sweet is this? Our adoptable dogs Darcy and Molly had a photo shoot at The Lost City, a local laser tag and arcade, for their upcoming adoption event Paws on a Mission: The Lost City Edition on September 27th from 12 to 5pm. Meet these amazing girls in person! Didn't they do such a good job modeling for the photos?!

⚠️ Warning: Graphic Photos Below

UPDATE: He is spending another night at the emergency vet.

We usually keep our posts upbeat, but today was heartbreaking—and we need to share why planning for your pets’ future is so important.

This morning we drove several hours to rescue two cats and a dog who had been left alone in their home for weeks after their owner was hospitalized. Although they did have someone checking in them - all three animals were in rough shape. Both cats are dangerously thin, and all three are crawling with fleas.

One cat in particular, 14-year-old Charlie, broke our hearts. His eye infections were so severe that his eyes were no longer visible, and blood was pouring from them. We couldn’t wait until tomorrow for care. We rushed him straight to the emergency vet, where he is now hospitalized, receiving fluids, pain relief, and antibiotics.

Charlie’s prognosis is uncertain, but at least tonight he is no longer suffering.

This is why it’s so critical to have a written plan in place for your pets in case you’re ever unable to care for them. They depend on us—and without a plan, their future can quickly turn tragic.

Please keep Charlie in your thoughts tonight.fgnger t ncy
