Some pets absolutely thrive in the busy boarding environments with lots of activity and endless “conversations” with others 😝

But there are also those pets who simply do better at home. 🏡

And that’s another part of why I created this business years ago.
I wanted to provide pets with one-on-one attention and individualized care. Some pets want a calm companion and extra snuggles. Others want to play fetch, go for walks, and have all the fun and excitement.

Each visit is tailored to your pet’s personality and needs; whether they’re a dog, cat, or even one of our exotic friends. 🐾

They get to stay in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by familiar sights, sounds, smells, their favorite bed & toys. 🦴
Their daily routines stay mostly the same while you’re away because every pet deserves care that’s the right fit for them. 🤍

One small thing I do during bedtime visits for doggos is... We go potty twice...

Usually we head outside within the first few minutes of me arriving, then we go about the rest of our visit- a special treat, water, playtime, snuggles, sleep sounds, make doggy-beds; whatever their bedtime routine is. Then right before I leave we head back outside for one last bathroom break.

They may not need to go twice, most of the time they don't, to be honest haha, but I like giving them that last opportunity before they go to bed for the night.

When I'm the one closing that door behind me at bedtime, I am thinking about their entire night ahead, not just wether I completed a "checklist". 🌙🐾🛌

Ever wonder what a pet sitter does to prepare her own pets before leaving town?!

Since I’ve been on the go lately, I figured I’d share a little BTS look at what I do before another pet sitter takes over.

First things first, my cats are on automatic feeders, so I make sure they’re full and ready to go. I also have notes in their feeding instructions to just double check the feeders daily to make sure they’re working properly.
For Ollie, I make sure we have plenty of food on hand (which is important when your gigantic dog eats 7 cups a day 😅).

I also set out any supplements and medications the cats & Ollie may need, along with clear instructions. As pets get older, things happen, and I never want anyone guessing if they need something… Whether it’s Benadryl for allergies, Trazodone for anxiety, or Carprofen if Ollie’s feeling sore, everything is clearly labeled with instructions for the sitters. Also because I am who I am lol, I have all those details details in my TTP for meds as such.

I also go through the house and make sure everything is set up exactly how I’d want it while I’m away:
✔️ Water bowls filled
✔️ Leash & gentle leader are in appropriate places
✔️ Toys, beds, blankets are where they belong
✔️ Lights, doors, windows are how I want them to be & stay
✔️ Pet care instructions updated

Side note: Yes, I actually have my own client account in Time To Pet. 😂

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that the more information you provide, in an organized fashion, for your pet sitter, the smoother everything goes. Detailed notes help ensure your pets’ routines stay as normal as possible and make it easier for us to provide the best care while you’re away; as in open blinds in the morning, close blinds at bedtime which is in my personal portal notes for Ollie, Roscoe & Ivy.

Now excuse me while I go double check my pets’ notes for the 50th time this summer 😅🤣

There is one little “service” included with basically every visit that isn’t technically on the service menu… the unofficial, veterinary nurse physical. 🤣

I can’t turn that part of my brain completely off no matter where I’m at.

From noticing stools, urine, appetite, breathing efforts, mobility, skin, teeth, eyes, ears, paws, lumps & bumps… anything that makes me go “was this there yesterday/last week/the other month?!”

Over the years, I’ve noticed several things while owners were out of town or hadn’t noticed yet (not to mention it’s hard to notice subtle differences when you’re with your pets every single day, that happens to me!)

While I would never diagnose- that is your veterinary doctors job, noticing and bringing awareness is one thing I’ve been trained half my life to do.

So while I am here to care for and love on your pets, there’s always my veterinary nursing background playing a role each and every visit! 👩‍⚕️❤️‍🩹

A pet sitting visit starts quite literally the moment I walk through the door. 🏡

Before I’ve even grabbed a leash or filled a food bowl, I’m already paying attention…
How did they greet me today? Excited? Anxious? Half asleep? Did they finish their food? How much water did they drink? Any accidents or anything unusual?

Then, with most of my dogs, we head straight outside, and yes, I’m paying attention there too!How quickly did they p*e? Was it normal for them? What does their stool look like? Are they moving comfortably? What’s their body language telling me?

Once the basic needs are taken care of and the initial “OMG EMILY’S HERE!!!” excitement wears off 😂, I can usually tell what they need from me for the rest of our visit.

Maybe we need to burn some energy. Maybe they want to play for two minutes and then become a couch potato. Maybe they just want snuggles and attention.

Every pet is different, and even the same pet can need something different from one day to the next.

Their care instructions tell me what your pet needs done.
Your pet tells me what they need from me. 🤍🐾

I love our households with two or more dogs that have completely opposite personalities. 😝🧘‍♀️

Usually, one dog is a professional couch potato who wants nothing but snuggles, belly rubs, and kisses the entire visit & the other pup is ready to go, go, go! Play fetch, go for a walk, explore outside, and play nonstop.

Figuring out the balance between different personalities, making sure each pet gets what they need, and adjusting the game plan every single visit keeps things fun and interesting because no visits are ever exactly the same.

At the end of the day, every pet deserves to feel seen, understood, and loved in the way that’s meaningful to them, and I think that’s what makes this job so special. 🤍🐾

Is your dog driving you crazy when you get home from work?

Sometimes the problem isn’t bad behavior- it’s pent up energy.

A midday walk can help reduce:
• Excessive barking
• Zoomies
• Jumping
• Restlessness
• Destructive behaviors

A tired dog is often a happier dog! 🐾
