FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

International Wildlife Trafficking Network Dismantled in the Peruvian Amazon
Georgia Untamed Zoo Provides Critical Aid in Rescue and Rehabilitation Efforts

Hogansville, GA – August 27, 2025 – A major international wildlife trafficking network operating in the Peruvian Amazon has been dismantled in a high-level covert operation last month, resulting in the confiscation of more than 200 wild mammals from illegal captivity. Among the rescued animals were tamanduas, owl monkeys, pygmy marmosets, capybaras, and two-fingered sloths.

At the request of Peruvian wildlife authorities, global conservation partners stepped in to assist—including Kids Saving the Rainforest (KSTR), ARCA, and GERFOR. When additional support was needed, Georgia Untamed Zoo mobilized quickly to provide aid, deploying critical veterinary supplies, expert personnel, and on-the-ground logistical assistance.

“Our team responded without hesitation,” said a representative of Georgia Untamed Zoo. “We are honored to play a role in protecting these incredible animals and ensuring they have the opportunity to return to the wild where they belong.”

Through a unified effort, the coalition delivered immediate medical stabilization, triage, and long-term care planning for the animals. This month marked the beginning of Phase I of the release operation, with several rehabilitated animals successfully returned to carefully selected sites within protected Amazonian habitat.

Georgia Untamed Zoo credits its guests, community supporters, and conservation partners for making this lifesaving work possible.

“We are deeply grateful to our supporters here at home,” added Georgia Untamed Zoo representative . “Your zoo visits, support, and advocacy directly contribute to protecting wildlife not only in Georgia but also across the globe.”

The zoo encourages the public to continue supporting international conservation missions. Donations can be made through Kids Saving the Rainforest to aid ongoing work in both the Peruvian Amazon and KSTR’s home-base in Costa Rica.
