Every day can be exciting, fun and interesting. We had the opportunity to get this little project set up and ready. What we’ve come to realize over the past few months is there are a lot of “fence installers” in our area- but there aren’t a lot of fence craftsman. When the owner is always on the job and doing the work and the crew is small- the flow, the coordination and the process is seamless. Everyone has the same goals- the same ethics and the same commitment- what that means is at the end of the day, this homeowner will get the best quality fence in the area! Because time, patience and details matter. And when you have a crew of 3- they all are committed to that very purpose!

Another beautiful fence is complete and now this homeowner can begin to enjoy the newly renovated backyard. I wish you could see how much time, detail and thought was out into this project. It was a very special experience. When another company wanted to “box” off the yard to avoid going into the swale along the side, we said why not go into the swale and keep as much of your usable property as possible. A cleaner look, more manageable area and an increased amount of space to keep. In order to do that, we actually extended the overall height of the fence and blended in a reverse taper. Longer, custom cut pickets with a clean, crisp line that blended from 6’ to nearly 7’ at the lowest point in the swale, and then back into 6’ at the back corner. It was an absolute ton of work- but what a substantial difference. Would you know that we don’t have the same heights? I doubt you’d see it, but we know why a world of difference that extra foot makes on the visual impression! Wow! That was some hard work for sure but doesn’t it look amazing!!!!

Oh so many stories could be told about this project. This homeowner had another company quote the job…. They wanted to “box” in around the swale. It was the “best way.” We came out and looked and came up with a plan, go into and through part of the swale. To do it and have it look clean, we ishtalled longer posts and will run extended pickets to do a blend where it rolls down the hill while still maintaining a more consistent feel. I think we will be working around 7’ rough picket lengths but I’m doing so, it will have a much more natural, consistent feel while countering the slope. The homeowner gets more usable yard, and the footage was nearly identical to the other quotes without giving up so much of the yard and making the layout all chopped up and boxy. The other interesting tid bit, the homeowner also had concrete work dig out last week and then poured yesterday. The concrete company piled all their dirt right in the way of our fence line… and with the rain made it made a mess. We moved it all out of the way and then came back and filled in the ruts that they left from the concrete truck. I won’t say it’s perfect, but it most certainly is better than when we got there this morning. This will be a truly unique and memorable fence when we get it finished up.

Yesterday we got things started on this project. Got the layout in place, holes dug and posts set. Things went fairly smooth although we did find the cable lines mismarked at 22-23” off the locates. Luckily, we always hand dig to clear the lines prior to verify inside 24” but that did slow the process a tad bit. Thankfully we don’t just pound posts blindly like we’ve seen done and play the percentages because the utility lien was right in the middle of the holes on 4 hand digs. We are old school, we still dig the holes 36” deep and set them with concrete. It’s worked for the past 20 years and beyond.

The last job of the three we worked on today… (technically the first in the day) was to remove 21’ of damaged and bent up top rail, it looked like a zig zag when we got there… we also needed to install two new line posts since the originals were linked and bent over, and finally we put it all back together. Instead of a jumbled up mess of fence, now it looks a little more like it’s supposed too.

The second of three repairs finished today. Pull in 3 leaning posts, set one new post and completely rebuild the front gate that wasn’t working very efficiently. The original install had it framed as an inside swing and was brutally built and barely working. We reset the front panel, reframed everything and made it an outside swing where it works better and functions more smoothly.

One of three jobs we tackled today. They were all smaller repairs but needed done and we were happy to make it happen. This job needed some pickets replaced along the back fence line that got damaged and the two front bed gates just weren’t working and set about 5” off the ground making little lovable animals able to escape. So we rebuilt them and installed new hinge and latch hardware and now everything works plus is set lower marking it safer.
