It’s been 450 days.šŸ’” That is 450 mornings of Duke waking up in a kennel, looking through the bars, and wondering if today is finally the day someone chooses him. It’s 450 nights of him falling asleep to the sound of a noisy shelter, still holding onto this heartbreakingly sweet, steady optimism that his person is out there. At four years old, he has spent way too much of his life just waiting for a chance to show someone how big his heart is.

When you take him outside, all that shelter stress just melts away. Duke is the definition of simple joys. Give him a random stick he finds in the grass, and it’s suddenly the greatest treasure on earth. He will turn that single stick into an entire afternoon of pure, unadulterated fun, completely content in his own little world. And if you throw a tennis ball for him? He will chase it down like it’s the absolute best gift he’s ever received.

But as much as he loves to play, his favorite thing is just being near you. When the excitement winds down, Duke will lean his whole body into yours, soaking up every ounce of affection you’re willing to give. In those quiet moments, when he’s cuddling close and looking up at you, you can see exactly what he’s dreaming of—a real home where he can finally let his guard down and just belong.

Because Duke has so much love to give, he wants to keep it all for you. He needs to be the only pet in the home and would do best without tiny kiddos running around. It’s not because he isn’t sweet; it’s just because he wants to be your one and only loyal sidekick. He doesn't want to share his humans—he just wants to dedicate his whole life to making you happy. After 450 days, don't you think he's waited long enough to be somebody's everything?

FOSTER NEEDED:

This is a broken record. Dogs are being surrendered, left and right. If not for financial reasons then health reasons. In the case of Chloe and Olivia, their owner is suffering from health issues and just cannot care for these girls anymore. These girls were adopted from a local rescue. They’re five years old and were adopted as Puppies. Both are very friendly and certainly deserve to be able to live a life of happiness. Olivia is around 40 pounds and Chloe is about 80 pounds. They’ve always been inside dogs. They are current on vaccines, both spayed and heartworm negative. Please message us if you can take on this much needed challenge. ļæ¼ please message ETAA if you were able to help. We will provide food and whatever else these girls need. Thank you! Messages us if you can help.

UPDATE on Jack fka Panther

He got X-rays and more blood testing done

🦟Heartworm treatment is really getting the best of him, his lungs are very cloudy, he is back to being anemic and is dehydrated. He’s getting more meds and we may have to go back if there is no improvement in the next 48 hours.

Jack is fighting hard and we won’t give up. He’s been to the vet multiple times now and it really is adding up, if you’d like to help by donating towards his ongoing medical care, it would be so very appreciated šŸ™
This sweet boy deserves a chance!

šŸ’” Long Term Hour šŸ’”

We are starting a new segment here at Walker County Animal Shelter called Long Term Hour! Every day at 12 PM, we will be featuring one of our long-term residents until they find their forever homes. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

First up: Jeremy!

You may have seen Jeremy on your feed before, and for good reason—this sweet boy has been in our shelter for over 1 year and is still waiting for someone to give him the second chance he deserves.

Jeremy is approximately 2 years old and just over 55 lbs. He is super sweet, gentle, and has such a loving personality. He enjoys spending time with his canine friends and loves to play, though he can tire out pretty quickly.

At this time, we do not yet know how Jeremy does with cats or kids.

Jeremy has waited far too long for a family of his own, and we are hoping his person is out there. Maybe that could be you. ā¤ļø

If you are interested in meeting Jeremy, we are open Monday–Saturday from 10 AM–4 PM. If you have another dog at home, we highly encourage bringing them for a meet and greet. No appointment required! šŸ”āœØ
