😻Darcy Update!😻
We want to thank everyone who generously donated to the care of Darcy, a Coastal Cat kitty that was diagnosed with Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome. As you know, Darcy has a severe case of FHS that led to a partial tail amputation, several vet visits, and lots of medications to counteract the pain and keep her calm while she was also sported a double collar because she kept getting the original cone off and further damaging her tail. We had dedicated volunteers taking shifts to spend time with her while she was healing in her foster home. Darcy, like many of our cats, became a fan favorite, as she provided more love and comfort to us than we gave to her. Our "shift patrol" to keep her more comfortable and engaged became more of a gift than a chore.
The goal was to wait it out and see if we could get Darcy through this disease with minimum harm to herself. The unfortunate part was, because there is so little known and studied about this syndrome, it could have taken us 6 months to 5 years to get her through. That is a tall order for a small, brand-new rescue with limited resources.
In mid-January, things took a turn for the worse for Darcy and she had to go back to the vet, yet again. We were devastated as we never wanted her to suffer more than live. We dropped her off at the vet, waiting for the call to lay out all the next steps. Dr. McKay-Dasent called, explaining what happened, which was not as bad as we thought which was a HUGE sigh of relief. The best part was, the news got better!!! The vet asked if she could adopt Darcy!! Like we said before, Darcy is an exceptional animal, she oozes love and everyone who meets her can see that instantly. We love our vet - shout out to Weymouth Landing Cat Clinic & Hotel - they not only provide exceptional care but every person there from the front desk to the veterinarians and everyone in between, is compassionate, kind and treats every cat that comes in as their own.
Darcy won the lottery that day, she will be loved and cared for by someone who can truly help her have the best life possible. No words can describe how grateful we are all here at CCR to have the support we have at our young age. We continue to learn and grow and be part of making our world just a little bit better. Darcy is now Emily, and she is doing really well. She still sports a cone, but she is being supported and loved, and she has the best family she could ask for.
Thank you again to EVERYONE who supported this sweet girl and helped get her to where she is! Board Member, Sara, used her video editing skills once again to put together a movie trailer to celebrate Darcy – we hope you enjoy!🍿🎥🍿🎬
