🎆🇺🇸 4th of July Pet Safety Tips 🇺🇸🎆
Fireworks may be fun for some of us — but they can be terrifying and dangerous for our furry friends! 🐶🐾

🔒 Keep pets indoors — fireworks can spook them into bolting or jumping fences.

📸 Double check ID tags & microchips — in case your pet gets out, proper ID helps them get home safely.

🧑‍⚕️🩺 If your pet is particularly sensitive to noise, consult with your veterinarian about pre-fireworks anxiety management strategies.

🎧 Create a safe, quiet space — play soft music, close curtains, and give them their favorite blanket or toy.

🚫 Don’t bring pets to fireworks shows — the loud booms, crowds, and flashing lights are overwhelming.

🧨💥Keep sparklers, glow sticks, fireworks, charcoal and kabob skewers away from curious pets.

🍔 Watch the food & drinks — keep alcoholic beverages, BBQ bones, and party snacks out of paw’s reach.

❤️🤍💙 Wishing you and your pets a safe & happy 4th of July ❤️🤍💙

Are your indoor kitty friends board or just seem to have nothing to do? This may be due to a lack of enrichment in their environment. Although your fur baby may spend all their time inside, the nature of loving the thrill of hunting, stocking, and chasing “prey” is still there. Here are a few ways that you can create a playful environment for your indoor cat.
“Create vertical space for your cat. Vertical space is essential indoor enrichment for cats. In the wild, felines are predators and pray, and they feel more comfortable and confident when they can survey their environment from above. An elevated position also allows them to escape, pesky humans and other household pets when they need downtime.
Next, provide scratching options for your cat. scratching is a natural instinct for cats that’s essential for their mental health. Cats scratch to keep their claws, healthy, stretch out their muscles, and leave sent messages for other cats. If you don’t provide appropriate scratching options, your feline friend will make do with your curtains and furniture — something no cat owner wants.
And third, make a treat puzzle toy for your cat. A feline treat puzzle toy is a fun and inexpensive. Indoor enrichment method for cats. Indoor enrichment for cats doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. A little extra time can help ensure your feline friend leads a happy, healthy, and rich life.”

‼️‼️Remember to keep your pets safe and warm in the cold temperatures.🌡️🥶 Pets left outside for extended periods are at risk for hypothermia and frostbite, especially on their ears, nose, and tail. Monitor 👀 your pet closely when outside and limit their time, take short, frequent walks with your dog rather than long excursions. Protect your pets paws 🐾 Winter weather can be tough on your pet’s paws. Snow, ice and rock salt can cause irritation and cracking, which is not only painful, but also increases your pet’s infection risk. After each walk, wipe their paws with a warm, damp cloth to remove chemicals and debris. Follow AAHA for more tips on keeping your pet safe through colder temperatures. ❄️

🐾 Meet Franklin, the best little patient! 🐾

Franklin came in for his appointment and impressed us all with his calm demeanor—even took a nap during his services! 💤 His laid-back attitude is a wonderful example of how early socialization and desensitization help puppies feel right at home at the vet. Starting positive experiences early means less stress and more happy tails when they come to see us. 💖

And the best part? Franklin strutted in full Halloween style! 🎃👻 We’re loving the creativity in all these costumes showing up this spooky season. Dressing up not only adds some seasonal fun, but it also gives these pups an extra chance to socialize and get comfortable around new sights and sounds. Keep those costumes coming—we love seeing your festive fur babies! 🐶🧡

Have you ever had to hold your friend’s hair back after a night on the town? 😂 Well... when it comes to our pets eating something they shouldn’t, we’re here to help in a similar—though more complicated—way!

If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, like chocolate, a toy, or other harmful substances, time is of the essence. Bringing your pet to the vet quickly can make all the difference. At Liberty Animal Clinic, we offer a service called emesis—a safe and controlled way to help your pet expel whatever they've eaten before it has a chance to cause serious harm.

What is Emesis?

Emesis is the medical term for inducing vomiting in pets. It’s not as simple as holding back their fur, though! Our trained veterinary team uses specific medications to trigger vomiting safely and effectively. This procedure is carefully monitored to ensure that your pet releases the harmful substance without any additional complications.

Why is Emesis Important?

When a pet ingests something toxic or dangerous, it can quickly be absorbed into their system, potentially leading to serious illness or even death. Emesis helps to:

Prevent Absorption: By inducing vomiting, we can remove the harmful substance before it has a chance to be absorbed into your pet’s body.
Reduce the Risk of Poisoning: The quicker we act, the less likely your pet is to suffer from the toxic effects of the ingested substance.
Provide Peace of Mind: Knowing that we can quickly intervene and help your pet recover safely offers immense peace of mind for pet owners.
When Should You Act?

If you suspect your pet has eaten something they shouldn’t, don’t wait! Call us immediately and bring them in as soon as possible. Timing is critical, as emesis is most effective within the first few hours after ingestion.

At Liberty Animal Clinic, we’re dedicated to providing the best care for your furry friends. Whether it’s an emergency like this or routine care, we’re here to ensure your pet stays happy and healthy.

Remember: Prevention is always the best medicine, but when accidents happen, we’ve got your back—no hair holding required!

☎️ Call us or stop by if you have any questions or need us in an emergency. We’re here to help!

🚨 Why Spaying Matters: A Real-Life Example 🚨

We often emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering your pets for many reasons, and here’s one more critical example. This sweet kitty came to us because her family thought she might be pregnant, but instead, we discovered she had a condition called pyometra.

What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that occurs in unspayed female cats (and dogs). It usually happens due to hormonal changes after a heat cycle, leading to a bacterial infection in the uterus. The uterus fills with pus, which can cause severe illness or even be fatal if not treated promptly.

Signs of Pyometra:

Lethargy or depression
Loss of appetite
Increased thirst and urination
Vaginal discharge (often foul-smelling)
Abdominal swelling
Vomiting
How Common is Pyometra?
Pyometra is relatively common in unspayed female cats and dogs, especially as they age. The risk increases with each heat cycle that goes by without pregnancy.

How Can It Be Prevented?
The good news is that pyometra is completely preventable! Spaying your cat (or dog) eliminates the risk of this dangerous infection. Spaying not only prevents pyometra but also reduces the risk of other reproductive system diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

This kitty’s story is a reminder of why spaying is so crucial. We’re grateful we caught the pyometra in time, and she’s now on the road to recovery. Remember, prevention is the best medicine—spay and neuter your pets to keep them healthy and safe! 🐱❤️
