For those of you who don't know, we will no longer be breeding horses.
Over the last few years, we have had a lot of heartbreak and hardships. I myself have been struggling with a lot of health related issues that changed my life completely. In light of this, after having Dewey's genetic panel work done, we learned he carries a copy of PSSM1, contrary to previous results from older labs that are not associated with UCDavis and APHA. Not only this, be we have also learned that the Hank A Chiefton line is likely the bloodline that carries the gene. This means that the bloodline I hoped to save from extinction will officially become extinct with Dewey as he is the last known stallion alive with the bloodline. Not only this, but Dewey has developed Heaves. What was an allergy to a certain type of grass has blown up into heaves. Not does he have this issue, but his mother and full brother have also developed the same condition. My mission was doomed from the start. However, Dewey will be living out the rest of his days with me as he is now 17 years old. This spring I plan to do a lot of liberty training with him and maybe do a bit of riding. He still knows how to do tricks like bowing and counting. I am planning to geld him so he can spend the rest of his days with Esther who is now 20 and is still his favorite mare.
