Temps will be in the single digits tonight in Southwest Virginia.

A fur coat and an igloo dog house are not sufficient warmth for most animals outside. Even if they're lucky and don't freeze to death, the cold will be pure torture for them.

If you cannot tolerate the temps, they cannot tolerate the temps.

The world is short one spoiled rotten little poodle today. Sophia (of Golden Girls fame of course) came into rescue just shy of 8 years ago with a few others from a hoarding situation.

Apparently her whole life up to that point was lived in a crate. Her fur had grown out of control ungroomed to the point she was stuck in a fetal position and moving pulled the fur off her skin. We didn't really know what breed she even was. Just a gray mass of dog all tangled up.

Tabitha Wireman got her looking like a dog again (albeit mostly bald, by complete necessity).

Then a previous adopter said "Hey - we'd like to adopt an old dog and give it a good final year or two." Great! Here's old girl Sophia. She's malnourished and has other medical conditions to treat etc.

And this old girl, didn't live out her last year, last two years, last three years, last four years.. but nearly 8 years.

She's lived with Boston Terriors (terrors), pit Bulls, random mutts, and one evil evil 5000 year old cat that never ages and quite frankly scares me and makes us fear for our future generations. (j/k, not j/k)

She even recently revived herself after dying from a heart attack. Still haven't figured out that one...

So long Sophia... at least you get to hang with the others again, won't have to worry about the cat. We'll see you later.
