NEW LEVEL 1 CLASS‼️ SOME SPACES STILL AVAILABLE for valuable training. Starting Tuesday evening, 6/9/26 at 6:30pm. 8 week session. For dogs 12 weeks of age or older and your dog is accustomed to being on a leash as all level 1 work is done on a 6ft leash.

Summer is a great time to be out and about…. Be the envy of others with your well trained dog!

Great class to learn the fundamentals of loose leash walking (heeling), no pulling, sit/down stays, recall, no jumping etc. We often times refer to this class as “good manners class” or “life skills”. A skill set that every dog and owner should have!

This class is not just for very young dogs….older dogs like to learn new skills as well!!

NO dogs for class #1, only humans please! Gayle reviews the content of the class (each client receives written class curriculum booklet with each week’s training objectives), proper types of training collars etc. (please note harnesses are NOT the recommended training tool for this class)

Please refer to website for registration form and fee schedule, https://gaylepersonsdogtraining.com/meet-our-trainers/

Mail in registration/ fee and vaccine documents prior to class start date. Kennel cough vaccine must be administered at least 2 weeks prior to dog attending class. Any further questions can be emailed to [email protected] OR call/text 585-392-4382 OR PM.

All classes held at 67 Old Hojack Lane, Hilton 14468

Good information to know and understand!

It’s panic. They’re running away.

You were out and about. The leash was taken off and for a few seconds it feels perfect.
Freedom.
Running.
Joy and some super fast circle zoomies

Then suddenly your dog is “gone”. Not physically.
Yet.
But it’s about to happen and your stomach down by your boots knows it.

Their ears stopped hearing you.
Their body changes.
Those eyes lock onto everything else.
You call once. Twice. Ten times.
And that awful feeling starts rising from your ankles to your chest.

You panic.
You’re now kicking yourself for letting them off that lead.
You’re frustrated, angry at yourself for that tiny decision you made.

People blame THAT moment.

But most off lead problems started way before the dog actually ran off.
They started in the much smaller moments, even on that lead.

A dog who rarely checked in.
Maybe recall only worked when nothing interesting was happening.
Or they were already prepared for the “recall game” in your backyard again.

More off lead freedom can feel like the answer.
But it’s not.
Yet.

Because sometimes, every "uncontrolled" off lead session is simply rehearsing disconnection from you.

That is why this can feel so upsetting for people.
Because they want to feel connected to their dog again.
And in that very moment, when they’re high tailing it out of there?
There's none.

But the good news is, connection can absolutely be built. Even out there in the real world.

Quiet check ins.
Tiny successes.
Long lines.
Rewarding engagement before things fall apart.
Building distraction levels slowly instead of hoping for the best.

Because truly reliable off lead freedom is not built on hope.
It is well and truly built on connection.

Did you know? Ever wondered what happens when your dog gets overly enthusiastic and distracted by something?

When stuck in a highly aroused state, a dog's impulse control is suppressed. During these intense emotional times, the dog's sympathetic nervous system activates while cognitive flexibility decreases.

Dogs who often appear "stubborn" during these exciting times are actually experiencing impaired executive function due to over-arousal rather than deliberate disobedience.

“Good sit stay…” Pepper is one of Gayle’s level 3 “students”. Great job, Pepper, practicing a sit stay at a local garden center. Practicing with distraction is not an easy task but this pup and her owner have worked diligently on obedience skills!
