$5 Friday - Biguette's surgery
As we shared on Monday, Biguette made her way to Ohio State on Monday for imaging. We Had hoped for surgery on Tuesday, but her images came back more complicated than we had imagined. Not only did Biguette have an ectopic ureter...she had two! We also knew that one of her kidneys was relatively small, but we didn't know that it was essentially non-functional. The team needed time to prepare, and to clear their schedule. She was admitted to the hospital Monday and still lays there today. Her surgery was Wednesday, and ended up being twofold. When reviewing Monday's images on Tuesday, it was found that there was a foreign body in her stomach. It was surgically removed, and we were told she had ingested what appears to be a ball pit ball 'long before she came into the care of North Paw Rescue'. This girl has some angels looking out for her, for that we are certain!
We are hopeful that her catheter will be removed today and she might be discharged tomorrow or Sunday. She will then make the 6 hour trek back to her foster home in Rochester, NY.
Although her surgery was deemed successful, we won't know to what degree for at least 2 more weeks. It is possible that she will need another surgery once she has healed from this one.
We have been told that Biguette is a favorite of the staff at OSU, and we don't doubt it. This house hippo just wants to please! If you can spare $5 today to help us continue to be able to save dogs like Biguette, whose veterinary care will be upwards of $10,000 when all said and done, we would appreciate it. Dogs like Biguette deserve second chances and we will always give those chances when we can.
