In the first 6 months of 2025, Shelter Animals Count estimates that 2.8 million cats and dogs entered shelters across the U.S. That is a mind-blowing number! While many will be adopted, there are still hundreds of thousands that will never see another loving furever home and either spend the rest of their lives in an overcrowded, noisy shelter or lose their lives to euthanasia. Between owner surrenders and "accidental" litters, shelters, rescues, and animal control facilities are inundated daily with new animal intakes. The animals are scared, confused; their entire world has been upended. Rescue workers are exhausted and disheartened. Many days see tears... some are happy ones, but many are out of sadness, frustration, anger, despair. Some of these fur kids come in in really rough shape.
We can't adopt our way out of the problem. Please spay and neuter your pet. Keep the pet you have. They would rather spend 8 hours waiting for you at home than 8 minutes in a shelter praying someone will save them. VOLUNTEER! TRANSPORT! FOSTER! Every rescue organization needs help. PAWS NEEDS HELP! We need volunteers, foster families, transport teams. Together we can do more!
