🔥🥵💥 Baby it's hot outside 🔥🥵💥

Sweet Luke Duke is enjoying some cooling down time. Because pot belly pigs lack sweat glands, they overheat very easily. To keep them safe in Florida’s intense heat and humidity, we provide a wet mud wallow or a shallow kiddie pool. Supplementing this with shaded outdoor areas, fresh drinking water with ice, and cool frozen treats will aid in keeping him cool.

Watching him move the mud and then cool himself down in the kiddie pool was a treat for us as we are just beginning to create his mud holes. Luke is 8 months old - love oatmeal, blueberries, strawberries, yogurt and greens. Measuring out his food and alternating his piggy pellets with various approved foods to maintain a healthy weight, clear coat and healthy attitude will give Luke a chance at living a long loving life here at the rescue ranch.

Luke is housed safely from the dogs (except the ones he plays with when a caregiver is in his enclosure). He plays with his oversized tennis ball and patiently will wait for "piggy peanut time". His care and expenses are not covered by the rescue funds raised to care for Luke.

Gift cards to the grocery store or bags of piggy pellets are always helpful in offsetting the costs for his care. He has an appointment with Black Creek & Dr Vieth for neuter pre-exam. At his age there will be additional costs due to his current size of approximately 65 #.

*****MINERVA UPDATE*****

Minerva is our newest addition to the "adoptable" dogs list. We introduced you to her a few weeks ago - and we just don't understand why no one is interested in adopting this sweet girl.

Minerva is in a very loving foster home right here in Nassau County. Angie has been her foster mom for 2 years thru Nassau County Animal Services. We pulled Minerva to give her the type of personalized adoption process a long time shelter dog needs. The longer a dog is in the "system" the harder it is for their options. We felt a video would best tell everyone how well Minerva does now. Her background matters yet her future holds no memories of those days.

Fostering is an amazing reward for both humans and pets. For Minerva it has meant a total transition and a better understanding of her needs.
Minerva deserves a forever family. No cats and it is suggested that there are no younger children in the home. Minerva would do well as an only dog however, she does well with/around others with proper integration and has a more passive personality.

🌈 Dreams - if you wait long enough they will come true

11 years ago when we purchased the property to bring Paw Paws Pet Rescue to another level it was due to a lot of looking & searching for the perfect spot for a free roaming ranch. Through the years we've added slowly to build the rescue, pet pantry and senior sanctuary for those in need. Nicole's Nursery, The Joe Gandy Medical Building, The Ethan Fishman Adoption Center, The Steigelman Family Play Yard & the building for Corbin's Corner Community Pet Pantry. We've seen over 400+ dogs come to the property since 2019.

The dream was to cut a bridge opening going from the house to the rescue side of the property. From before the blueprint stage it was supposed to create the privacy and safety for the dogs. No one would tackle the project. It was too wet from underground water and to be honest - the growth is very thick and can be quite a bit annoying.

We awoke to Dawson getting ready to bring the dream to reality. Not only is the rescue getting an 1100' foot fence along the State Road - we have 6 foot wide shaded walking path from one side to the other AND the dream of the opening for crossing over from one side to the other was cut in !!! The transformation of dreams to reality has begun.

We saved and saved. We need our donations for the medical care and daily upkeep of the 21 dogs on property. We use everything two three four times until it can't be used again. The donations we receive we are grateful for.

In steps Gaines Fencing - Cliff and Reed to make things happen. Dawson Murphy with Murphy Development is a true breath of fresh air. Honest and does what he says.

Tears of joy literally. It's not done but it's started and walking down the newly cut path for 1100 feet through the trees was so nice. It's part of the dream. Saving every penny for so long and we are taking things to the next level of a free roaming dog rescue.

At 1119pm General knows nothing about personal space 😂 Cuddle time is cuddle time ⏰ 💖

Luke is 7 months old and an only piggy. Looking for help with his hooves and a neuter. Any mobile vet or farrier available for this area? We've not received a reply from Dr Lewis after numerous messages - he's most likely busy 😉

Luke is super friendly & loves piggy peanuts playtime. Someone who will warm up to him will be the best for our sweet boy 🐷🐽🐖

🎉🎉🎉It's official - Welcome Minerva to Paw Paws Pet Rescue 🎉🎉🎉

Minerva comes to us as a long time foster resident thru Nassau County Animal Services. Her intake date occurred on June 6, 2024. Today we signed the transfer paperwork and took Minerva in as a Paw Paws Pet Rescue dog.

Minervas story is filled with the typical stray dog found on a road - abandoned at some point - skin issues, emaciated, fleas and parasites. We weren't there for her beginning. What brought her to us is a networking army of people who believe Minerva would benefit from a more specialized adoption process. You see. Minerva is a bite case dog. Because of the specifics it makes her a labeled risk.

We are always transparent. Bite cases have a meaning, story and reaction to the situation presented. We weren't there. The expertise of Dana with Tandem K9, inc. was requested and she consulted. It's no surprise that the "issue" has not presented itself again. Most bite cases are isolated. Minerva has been an obedient dog.

Ange has been fostering Minerva for the almost 2 years she's been in "the system". During that time the healing process has been achieved, heartworm treatment completed, ongoing training & socialization skills are part of Minervas daily activities. With proper integration she has learned that having a few furry friends around is not a bad thing. It's taken time and patience in which Ange was able to provide. Minerva is an adjusted domesticated dog waiting on her forever family.

We are always in belief that certain opportunities present themselves for a reason. Minerva has a whole team cheering her on - so let's find her a family 🐾❤️🐾

No young children (under 10) - quick unpredictable motions may tend to put Minerva in caution mode. A calmer home atmosphere rather than a hectic louder active home is the perfect type of family.

Minerva does well for a middle age gal in public arenas without hesitation. Her recent outing at 4CHI Pets re-grandopening proved that her changes have evolved to trust. Being in a structured foster home and not directly in a loud shelter environment has made all the difference to her adoptability.

Give us a few days to put together a "Minnie Album" and bio. We want to find the best of the best homes for Minerva. A 3 day overnight will be required for the chosen adopter. Background and Home check are non-negotiable.

721 days of foster care being loved on and healed from a gray past which we will never know about
