It's a beautiful night out after a warm sunny day. It has been 12 days since the rain began and now, day 4 of no rain.

Water height update - we can barely see the rain gauge which indicates the water is receding but is still deep enough for Misty to swim in.

The erosion has been enough to rethink the repairs at the river that runs thru the road. We are thankful to say the least that the damage to this area wasn't additional. The positive side of things is we learned that ladders can double as a temporary bridge over the water 💦 😂

Mosquitoes are out in full force. Bug spray is a must and they love the dogs. We spray ours with Skin So Soft. Yes, it works. The heart worm meds monthly also aid in the protection dogs need.

Thank you to everyone who checks in on us and continues to offer assistance. At this time we are taking each area at a time. (Piggy area - road access to the rescue ranch - deck & fencing damaged caused by water and erosion) Please continue to keep the affected families in your thoughts and donations as they continue to navigate thru the disaster from Hurricane Isaiah 🙏❤️

Luke the Duke of Piggyville update

Luke has been learning about some fall enjoyments - Yes it's pumpkin time 🍂🎃

Luke is enjoying his very 1st pumpkin. We had to break it open for him but once he figured it out there was no stopping him. We used the 6-8" round size & removed the stem. Watching him roll it around and carry it into his make shift lean-to was a proud moment.

Our guy will be a year old next month and the piggy peanut party will definitely include a pumpkin 🎃🥜🐷

Clean-up Update

The damages we have sustained are nothing compared to those in the direct path of Hurricane Isaias. Our issues can be repaired in time along with funding and donations. Please keep the impacted families in your thoughts.

Paw Paws River is still flowing. The water table is still above 11" & it appears that even with the receding water in various areas of the rescue ranch, we have a bit longer before we see any type of dry soil. The water has built up on the backside of the property and has nowhere to go.

With that update, we have been in touch with Dawson of Murphy Development. A plan has been discussed and will be put into place. Again, our damage is manageable. Some were not as lucky in our immediate area.

At this time we are not bringing volunteers up to the rescue. Between the mud, water, overgrown grass/brush and mosquito issues it's best we wait for more progress from Mother Nature. It is our goal to have a volunteer day scheduled soon.

Thank you for all the texts, supplies, and offers of clean up help. Without those of you we will not be able to continue our mission moving forward.

Meet Jesse J, one of our former rescue pups who is competing in the Top Pets Competition! She’s currently sitting in 3rd place in her group, and we’d love to help her move up! 🏆

Jesse’s story started when she and her siblings were found abandoned on a county road at just 5 weeks old. Thankfully, they made their way to Paw Paws Pet Rescue, where they were given the second chance they deserved.

And Jesse’s story gets even sweeter! ❤️ She was adopted by one of our very own board members! So this little girl isn’t just a Paw Paws success story — she’s still part of our rescue family!

Now Jesse has an opportunity to give back to the rescue that helped give her a second chance!

If she continues advancing through the competition and ultimately wins the grand prize, Paw Paws Pet Rescue could benefit through the competition’s rescue grant program! 🐶💕

8pm Water effects update

We now have lake front property and the 11" rainwater gauge is officially under water. 🌧️ ☔🌊

The Aluminum cargo box (Craftsman truck size) we use for package deliveries is floating around and the dogs bark at it for good measure 🦴🦮💦 The river is still running thru the erosion area and will be until the water recedes.

The area of Florida we are in is right below the Georgia State line. Yes, we can walk across in less than 2 minutes. The DOA station is across from our property line. 😂 We've received texts all day for Nassau County (Florida) and Charleton County (Georgia) rain, flooding and wind advisories and we are here to say they haven't been this accurate in a long time 🤗

It's steadily raining and gusts of wind have become more prevalent. The outer bands are moving North East and we are on the right side of them. Checking in with the other members of our team affected by the same weather are seeing the same weather. What was predicted to be a no rain forecast turned into everything else.

Thank you for all the offers to help once the rain subsides and the water receding begins we will 100% take you up on. 🙂

Prayers for the impacted families of Isaias path of destruction as a Cat 3 hurricane. There is going to be the calm after the storm.

**** UPDATE****

11:00 am Hurricane Isaias center located just below the panhandle area. It is reaching well to the North and the East. We are on the right side of the storm and the tail. Emergency alerts have been issued for our area (and that of 2 of our board members) Please note that we are all in preparation.

Please do not underestimate the power of the winds. With all of the rain the last 8 days there is a tendency to see the uprooting of trees, winds creating flying debris. The center is west of us - creating tornado warnings and ongoing rains. Estimated land arrival - sunset Central Time.

We are moving Brownie off the property today. So thankful for all of the amazing offers. We've never evacuated in the past and with a puppy it's been a challenge with the rains and rising water.

Piggy secured (temporary but dry)
Dogs in buildings and safely secured.

Now we wait.
