πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ We did it - it's here πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Dreams do come true as our patience has paid off. Corbin's Corner Community Pet Pantry wanted to provide mobile services to the entire county. Finding the right cargo trailer for our mission wasn't going to be easy. We had a budget and donations to cover a portion of that.

It's beautiful inside and out. 2025 7x16 tandem cargo trailer - insulated. Built out customized paint & flooring. 43" TV - led lighting inside and out. Extended overhang for weather coverage. It was a dream and fortunately our dear friend sent us the listing. The rest is as they say, history. She's resting comfortably on a brand new hitch at the rescue ranch.

Thank you to those who donated towards the purchase. We couldn't have done it without your support 😊

πŸ“’Our next goal - wrapping this enormous blank canvas. So here's what we are going to do:

🌟We will have a contest for graphic art designers/wrap companies
🌟Designs will be submitted
🌟We will post designs for voting
πŸ…Winner will be awarded the job to wrap our new trailer

If you know of a company interested in this opportunity tag or share this post. Rules and applications will be emailed. This contest will begin May 18th and close on June 14th. Voting will begin June 21st and close on June 28th.

The winner will be contacted privately and winner publicly announced on July 6th. Sharing this opportunity with our community, family and friends is a blessing. πŸ’“Thank you from the top of our hearts πŸ’“

****Mr Stray Update***

Day 2 of sub q fluids - pain meds - 2 antibiotics and some fresh cooked beef with broth to get him to eat

Our stray is still on 72 hour medical round the clock care. He has more energy today showing signs of wanting to stand up. His left front paw is still inflamed, sore and he will not use it yet. He showed interest in the food and lapped up the broth. His neck swelling has lessened however, the discomfort is still apparent. Water is available whenever he feels like drinking. πŸ™

Our minds are still convoluted with harsh thoughts of what he has already been thru. It's hard to comprehend. 😐

Those who have asked what our plans are must be new to our rescue. We don't have room - our intake has been closed yet we keep going withcases that we can't say no to. When will all of the evil stop? Sadly, there are no answers. πŸ˜”

We will exhaust all resources to help this guy. He found us by way of our taking an alternate way back to the rescue. It was meant to be they say. We say it's the rescue ranch magic that lets us do what we do. The healing process may be lengthy but we are in this for the entire journey.

πŸ’žTo all who have donated: your generosity has been priceless. We are beyond humbled by your kindness in prayer. There still is good in humanity and Mr Stray has the opportunity to find out just how good life will be πŸ’ž

πŸ’” The pictures may be graphic to some - please do not view if you would feel uncomfortable or bothered πŸ’”

It was pouring down rain and I never took this road home. For some reason I made the turn. I'm tooling along and there's an animal on the side of the road. Thinking it was deceased, I backed up and prepared myself to cover the dog and move it. As I got closer I saw the eyes move. Scared me - no lie. So, after giving the dog some time to know I wasn't there to hurt but, help.

In the meantime I phoned the closest vet that our rescue partners with and they were preparing our arrival after I was able to pick the dog up. Honestly, the water rat look and muddy shoes were kinda attractive at this point.

He's a stray - unaltered - mixed breed - what appeared to be a possible hit by vehicle situation. Dragging his left front leg and unsteady we waited for triage and the vet. Of course, no microchip.

After careful examination and multiple X-rays to determine how severely hurt he was, it was shocking to find not one bone fracture or break. In fact, there is severed shrapnel in his body. Now, no one knows how long the pieces have been there but it's safe to say that the blood was fresh and the trauma was early onset. We won't rewrite his story but one can surmise from his body which was covered in older healed bite marks that he's endured and he was already giving up.

Meet Paw Paws newest medical case. The vets office was unable to provide the 24/7 care this dog was going to need (sub q fluids and monitoring his breathing, intake, vitals, etc) and emergency vet wasn't an option. We are able to do that.

We aren't sure what each day will bring. Right now Mr Stray is laying comfortably in our garage and he is closer to the main house. The medical building is in use so triage is now open but the garage door has been disconnected.

We are going to need help with this guy's medical costs. It's truly an unexpected journey for not only this dog but our rescue as well. After we finish with 72 hours of sub q he will be reevaluated as we move forward to heal this sweet boy. We have 14 days of antibiotics to move the healing process forward and with determination hopefully our next steps will be blood work and a treatment plan depending on how he's feeling and progressing.

We've incurred $409.00 for this visit. Anything you donate towards this bill or future costs to be incurred is truly appreciated. We have numerous links to accept donations.

Each time we do an event we never know what to expect. It can be the first time or the tenth. Each event makes an impact.

A Day of Dogs left all of us in awe. So many skilled amazing individuals in one location. The power of knowledge was respected and shared. The show of dogs skills deserved every ounce of pride and applause. Bite demonstration done with accuracy and pure obedience. If you missed it you missed more than a show.

The weather may have ruined structures but not passion. Vendors, food trucks and a silent auction were part of the fun. We are already looking forward to next year. This event will grow into a must attend event in the future dates.

πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯Our most celebratory moment πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯

Lazarus found his forever family after almost 5 years at the rescue ranch. He arrived on a Pilots N Paws flight in September 2021 - underwent reconstructive surgery and patiently waited for a family. Little did anyone know that he was about to hit the jackpot of human love.

Steve and Linda lost their beloved dog 4 months ago. The silence was deafening however, they were not going to adopt just yet. Not ready. Just walk by the booth with the dogs waiting for homes. Failure. It was inevitable. And then it happened - the eyes. The demeanor. The calm hope of maybe this time.

Lazarus impressed. He knew the assignment and he was hopeful. Then it happened. He won πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ After the wait, it was his turn and he thanked us with hugs and kisses. He went home. He had his family finally.

His journey was showered with love and the dedication of many people:

Bainbridge Animal Services
Cathy Ellsworth
Pilots N Paws
Full Circle Animal Hospital
Sixth Street Veterinary Services

You see. We just never know what event is going to be "that event". Our belief is that every dog deserves a home. Each dogs medical care is ongoing until the vet releases them for adoption. Lazarus waited almost 5 years since those words were spoken.

Lazarus was perfect. He walked nicely on his leash and sat by his new family as they strolled the vendors. He enjoyed lots of vendor treats and new toys to go home with. We didn't say good bye because we know we will see Steve, Linda and Lazzy out in Nassau County enjoying life at the beach or somewhere that the 3 of them can go together.

πŸΎπŸ’—πŸΎ Happy life Lazarus πŸΎπŸ’žπŸΎ

πŸŽ‰πŸ’πŸ’ž What a week πŸ’žπŸ’πŸŽ‰

Heather here. We are a bit behind in posting updates. As most know, our founder & owner is facing challenges medically. The team is holding the rescue together and events have been very advantageous. The accomplishments have become celebratory on many levels.

🐾🐾🐾 RAMBO UPDATE🐾🐾🐾

Not going to lie. The entire team was outraged when a local veterinarian did not provide proper and adequate care when first seeing him upon intake. (The progression of Rambo's condition wasn't addressed by her and that resulted in emergency transport and urgent dental surgery to save his life. Rambo needed help. The team did not hesitate to jump into action getting Rambo on the road to Cumberland Vet Hospital in Havana, to Dr Bowman and her team.

Now before you type it, our local vets had ZERO availability and the soonest Rambo could be seen was 4/28. He would have died before then. See, the story goes that the first vet was not effective. She never addressed why we sent him to her. Rambo was lethargic, failing to drink or eat. He was giving up and he was killing himself slowly. We will do whatever we have to and exhaust every option before we know we can't help their quality of life. So, back to the situation.

Rambos blood work looked good so surgery was moving forward. He was weak yet he knew that help was ahead. After being transported 3 hours from Jacksonville to get Dr Bowman's help, Rambo went into surgery to remove the fur and teeth that were swelling his jaw, keeping him in pain, making it difficult to eat and drink. It was a successful surgery. 6 teeth removed. No more fur as compacting to hide the pain. No more rotten teeth to fall out. No more swelling, infection or pain moving forward. Now the rest is up to Rambo.

Rambo was awake. Rambo was hungry.
He ate πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ and he wanted more. How beautiful that sight must have been. Now to go back to Jacksonville. Rambo was about to show everyone what a senior hound comeback looked like. Eleven days after his freedom ride Rambo was now settling down and giving a second chance, a second chance. His progress has been remarkable and Rambo met Dr Arbo for his followup.

Vet bedside manners are just as important as the care they are capable of providing. We are happy to know that Rambo and his foster mom are in the best hands possible. Dr Arbo has partnered with our rescue since 2014 and is close to our foster in the event of an emergency in the future. He will be the vet of record for anyone who adopts Rambo.

What are the treatment plans for Rambo moving forward? Food intake - obedience training although we've been told he is pretty set in his ways for a 8 1/2 year old dog. Rechecking his mouth for any issues will be done as needed. Rambo is on a sensitive stomach food with the kibble being soaked before offered to him. He is eating 2/3 cup plus 1/3 canned 3 times a day. At 37 # he's underweight. He is on Nexgard Plus for monthly prevention coverage. Rambo is now learning that being a dog and loved is an acceptable aspect of his second chance.

Rambo will be looking for his forever family. He is perfect with kids, other dogs and humans in general. Rambo is hound smart and he has the dreamiest eyes ever πŸ‘€ πŸ’—

Thank you to the amazing team over the last 2 weeks as this all came together. Rambo is getting the 2nd chance he deserves. We love our dogs so they can love once again πŸ’ž

We are a bit behind in posting updates. As most know, our founder & owner is facing challenges medically. The team is holding the rescue together and events have been very advantageous. The accomplishments have become celebratory on many levels.

On Tuesday, May 5th, we participated in the Dine to Donate fundraiser partnering with Texas Roadhouse in River City Marketplace, Jacksonville. As of yet we have not received a final donation amount raised. We had so much fun that night and look forward to another one in the 4th quarter of 2026. Dawn & Skye know how to make a nonprofit feel special πŸ₯°

Thank you to everyone who came out. The food was great - drinks were poured & our merchandise table was a success. Don't forget that kids night is on Tuesdays also. No one does a family dining experience like Texas Roadhouse.

See you at the next Dine to Donate night.

πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’THANK YOU SUPPORTERSπŸ’πŸ’πŸ’

We are proud to share with our followers & supporters that Paw Paws Pet Rescue has been voted as the 2026 Readers Choice Animal Rescue presented by the Nassau County Record.

This award means a lot to our team. So much hard work & time is volunteered by our Board of Directors, event volunteers, ranch volunteers and community pet pantry partners. From the inception of our rescue in 2009, becoming a 501c3 in 2014, rescue ranch with 5 buildings in 2019, pet pantry in 2023 and numerous vaccine, microchip and adoption clinics we have impacted the medical dog rescue community with 1149 pets rescued over the years. The families we assist has impacted our community by showing a successful surge in keeping families & their pets together without the need to surrender their pet.

This is our 5th year being noticed and voted as Best of the Best. We know there are so many rescues that are just as deserving of this notoriety and we share this with them. Partnering with others is what assists animals in need successfully. To all of you - thank you for being part of animal welfare in any capacity that makes the dream work for each animal saved.
