We need help for a single run to the landfill. We have one last pile of junk that was too small for another 20 yard dumpster that we have to get off the CHN property. We need a couple of volunteers to help load up at Highland and unload at the Alpha Ridge Landfill in Marriottsville. We'll be renting a truck this Saturday 8/9 and we can start by about 10:00 am or whenever our volunteers are ready. With a couple of volunteers, it shouldn't take any more than about 20 minutes on each end. If you'd be willing to pitch in for our last bit of clean out, that would be fantastic! Farewell friends! We just finished clearing out our CHN shelter premises in Highland last night. A massive shout out goes to Amber Hamby-Caruso and Katelyn Duck, without whose heroic efforts we would still be tossing out our throw-aways, filling three 20 yard dumpsters, with a little left over. An honorable mention also goes out to our helpful volunteers and especially to Tim Magnani, without whose help we would still be there digging out.

We are sad to have to go, but we are happy about the thousands of homeless adoptable dogs we saved over the past decade. Thanks to everyone who played a part. Please read our farewell message at the link below.

HELP!! Calling all strong, able-bodied friends to help us load a dumpster between 4:30 pm and 8:30 pm on Thursday, 7/31/2025. We have lots of stuff to get rid of and we're running out of time. We will be at our shelter location at 13454 Clarksville Pike, Highland, MD 20777. Even if you can only pitch in for an hour, that will be a big help. Thank you!!!

Update on Rain: Rain is now under the care of Pampered Paws. She still is the same girl with the award for best underbite and sweetest houseguest.

Pampered Paws is actually primarily a cat rescue, but they have taken in Rio and now Rain to help them find their forever homes. If you are still interested in adopting Rain, please contact them through their page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100080222138980.

If you’ve had your eye on Everest, note that he is now under the care of PetConnect Rescue . PetConnect Rescue was originally founded to help rescue pets during Hurricane Katrina, and has grown over the years and continues their rescue work from overcrowded shelters between Maryland and Georgia.

🔁Please share this post with anyone who may be interested! Let's find these girls a home!

With the help of many local rescues, we have been able to place most of our dogs under the watch of wonderful folks to see them through to their forever home. However, we have 2 of the best girls that are looking for adoption as soon as possible!

Rain and Watermelon are long overdue to find their forever homes and we hope to make this happen very soon! Both Rain and Watermelon have sponsored adoption fees and $300 worth of donations for training to be gifted to their adoptive families.

Now, a little more about these sweet girls…..

🌼Rain is a young Basenji-mix who might just be the whole package. She is a small girl with the biggest heart. She is house trained, crate trained, no resource guarding, quiet in the home, sleeps through the night, and loves kids. Talk about a lover-girl! And bonus, she has an underbite that will always brighten your day. Every foster home she has been in has said she is an absolute dream to have at home. We can’t rave about her enough!

🍉Watermelon is a 4-year old 75 pound American Bully mix that is all personality. She is a silly girl who brings a smile to everyone’s face. Lovingly nicknamed “Melon,” she is crate trained and 99% of the way to being fully house trained. She is only a few inches off the ground, but her round body loves a good belly rub so be prepared for that! Please note that Watermelon would prefer to be your only pet at home 🩷 Watermelon will also be featured on 7/16 on WMAR-2 News, so be sure to tune in!

We are seeking a foster for Ella, our sweet and spunky young girl. Her current foster can only keep her for a few more days and we need to find her a new foster home as soon as possible.

Ella is a gorgeous 2 year old mixed breed (we're open to guesses about what she might be a mix of!) that weighs about 30lbs. She is full of fun, joy, and has never met a stranger! She makes friends with every person and every dog she meets. Ella is house trained, enjoys decompressing in her crate after a long day, but may need a refresher on some basic commands. She just gets so excited to see her people--and who wouldn't want that??
