Toby & Lexy are adolescent lab mixes who are hoping to be in a forever home for the holidays! It seems that a litter of older puppies was dumped in the country in late fall. Sadly one was killed on the road and then the others starting showing up in different places. Toby was found by one of our volunteers while she was out on a walk! We later took sweet Lexy in when she was found by a nice lady on her property. They are both wonderful; good with kids, cats and dogs. Toby and Lexy both weigh around 60- 65 lbs and should only grow a bit more. They are beautiful & so good! Please share their puctures or complete an application on our website if interested in adopting!

Country Road Take Me Home
Our supporters allow PRN to write stories like Tilly’s. Be a part of this special day at https://petrescuenetworkstl.com/donate/

And there she was…. QUITE the hefty chocolate lab wandering back and forth on a two lane busy rural road. To and fro… to and fro… also spotted sitting in the middle of the road, as if waiting. A good samaritan gained her trust, brought her to the safety of their home while hunting extensively for her owner. Although unable to share her story in “human-ese”, abandoned dogs will often exhibit waiting, staying, sitting in one spot behaviors, awaiting the return of the human who has betrayed them. We have no way to know for sure, but it certainly was suspected.

Unable to locate an owner, PRN was enlisted to aid Tilly. At around 4 years of age, she was unspayed, appearing to have been bred multiple times. More seriously, she was diagnosed with morbid obesity and heart worm positive. It became obvious Tilly’s path to health would be a complicated journey which required an extremely dedicated individual. Lucky for Tilly, her foster dad fit the bill!

Tilly’s weight loss miracle started Day One of foster care, with every meal measured exactly. Exercise programs could not be initiated due to potentially serious life threatening complications of heart worm infestation and subsequent treatment. As the months passed and Tilly experienced quality health care and the love of her foster dad, a whole new girl emerged! Thirty pounds lighter, spayed, heart worm treatment successfully completed, she is now ready for a gym membership, or at least a forever family who is very active and will ensure that her couch potato days are just a faint memory from her sad past.

Tilly loves displaying her before and after pictures.. the only thing that would make her smile even bigger would be finding her perfect forever home. She LOVES LOVES LOVES people, loves to go different places and taking walks, and like most labs loves food, snacks & goodies (her new family will have to monitor closely, ignoring those pleading eyes so that her figure stays fit and trim forever more!). What a journey down that Country Road, to a loving foster home, now to the place where she belongs (forever)!

Wicked
The life of a cat existing in the wild can be wicked indeed. Such was the case with Elphaba, a wee black juvenile and NessaRose her tuxedo companion. Bonded to each other, and surviving in despicable conditions, these two girls are characteristic of situations where PRN is often asked to assist.

PRN was contacted by a rural landlord whose tenants had abandoned the home, leaving behind a horrific situation… trash, garbage, broken furniture, junk, and cats… tons and tons of cats, most living but some sadly deceased. With the extraordinary efforts of a dedicated trapper with a few volunteers, 21 adult cats and 18 kittens were removed from the property. Working with additional community resources, a number of the cats were TNR’d, while possibly adoptable adults, adolescents and kittens were taken in by a variety of rescue agencies.

One of the primary concerns with colony cats is their reproduction rate. Within 7 years, one single pair of unfixed cats and their offspring can produce up to 420,000 kittens. A female kitten is able to become pregnant in some cases at the age of 4 months. Kittens born in colonies often have little to no socialization with humans, making it difficult to adopt them into homes. Some colony cats will never adjust to life outside their outdoor community, but TNR is a humane method for managing feral cat populations. In TNR, cats are trapped, taken to a veterinarian for neutering or spaying, and then returned to their original location. This helps prevent further reproduction and, over time, reduces the size of the colony. TNR programs also provide an opportunity for medical treatment, ensuring the cats are healthy and not suffering from untreated illnesses or injuries.

Nessarose, the tuxie girl, seemed a candidate for potential adoption if a foster would be willing to patiently and calmly work with her, teaching her humans can be trusted and a source of love. As months passed, Nessarose, now a bit over a year old, became trusting of her loving caretaker and has blossomed into a precious love bug once she knows her people. Her sidekick Elphie remains an ongoing work in progress… her foster mom celebrates the tiny steps that show success… venturing out of her “safe cubby”, not hiding when mom enters the room. She remains untouchable but there is a definite softening in her eyes.

It is now time for Nessarose to find a family that will grant her a bit of extra time to gain her trust (they will then have the sweetest girl). And perhaps there might be some “good magic” where Nessa’s family might even consider allowing Elphaba to hitch a ride along, allowing her to live life on her terms, helping her future unfold.

Donors who support PRN thru allow continued work with individual critters like Elphie and Nessa, as well as continued efforts addressing the very real problem of feral and community cat colonies in both urban & rural areas. https://petrescuenetworkstl.com/donate/

Hitchin a Ride
Imagine driving a two lane busy road on a dark, dreary night. Its a rural area, and you are heading home after a long and tiring day. As you are driving, straight ahead you notice a small shaggy figure sitting pathetically in the middle of the road, right on the double yellow lines. Could that be a tiny little dog? You turn on your hazards, and gingerly approach this forlorn little critter, full of worry that he / she might dart onto a busy highway. Small enough to be scooped into two hands, there she is.. shaking, frightened and all alone. This is Poppy's story.

Poppy was now safe… a new journey had begun. Pet Rescue Network sprung into action. No owners to be found…her immediate needs included vetting, grooming, and a loving spot to land. Initial assessment revealed her age to be approximately 10 to 12 years old, and in dire need of dental care and a full blown makeover. When all was said and done, every tooth (being rotten and decayed) was removed in order to protect her overall health. Actually feeling SO much better, this did not slow her down one bit. She was thoroughly enjoying her soft diet, her snazzy new look, and the love of her foster dad. Poppy quickly blossomed into a 5 pound spirited & spunky vintage sort of gal!

Enter Steve & Pam, long time supporters of PRN, and parents to Holly the cat (and PRN alum). Having lost their precious Lily Lou, they toyed with the idea of bringing another pup into their home. As they RV during the winter months, certain criteria needed to be met…. small enough to carry - check!; travel well in a car, check!; enjoy meeting people of all ages - check!; get along with the queen bee Holly - check!; make hearts feel warm and fuzzy - double check!!! It was not a difficult decision at all.

Poppy, who is especially smitten with her dad, is currently amassing a curated wardrobe & enjoying regular outings to parks & doggie cafes. She will be “on the road again”… this time with all the creature comforts of an RV, the love of two doting parents, and the grudging acceptance of Holly the cat! PRN is so thankful to Steve and Pam for considering an older pet, who still has much to give and a future chock full of new fun filled adventures!

We can only continue helping pups like Poppy with the continued support of our amazing donors. Please consider a donation today, Tuesday. Every dollar helps us help them! https://petrescuenetworkstl.com/donate/

“What a friendly fellow!” is the most frequently uttered phrase by those that meet BJ. He immediately snuggled across the clinic staff’s chests while being vetted, gaining "favorite patient" status.

A real sweetie pie & gentle soul, this 2 to 3 year old boy had ventured out of the woods and eventually took up residence at a family’s cabin. When it became apparent he planned to stay, and no family could be located, BJ was welcomed indoors, and boy did he ever immediately adapt!

Warm cozy beds, consistent meals, dangly toys all tickle his fancy, as does standing on his foster mom's lap being petted. He is very people oriented and loves the indoor life!

In spite of being FIV+, PRN is certain this boy can bring much joy to a permanent family. Many FIV+ cats live long healthy lives, either in a single cat household, with other FIV+ feline housemates, and even friendly gentle FIV- cats (FIV is NOT highly contagious to other cats). We would love to provide further information to those that might consider opening their home to this mild mannered loving chap. Please submit an application if you might be able to make this boy's Thanksgiving wish come true.

Meet Lydia, a 1 1/2 to 2 year old gorgeous tortoiseshell (with adorable markings at the end of her tail) who would be ever SO thankful for a forever home! She has transformed from a scraggly vagabond to a lovely lass while blossoming in her foster home.

Lydia gets along well with another friendly cat, and is friendly with people of all ages. She LOVES to eat and is sooo grateful for regular meals & happy to be off the streets. She definitely takes advantage of warm snuggly beds, boxes, cubbies to curl up in & a cat tree to dutifully window watch. Lydia is ready to find her forever family and be loved and cherished.
