How many weekends of rainfall did we endure and now the temps are getting hotter out there?! Say goodbye to Spring and hello to Summer! These are perfect conditions for all the creepy crawly creatures out there. This is prime mosquito season and they are looking to spread their infectious disease with a blood meal. Ticks are out (not that they ever truly go away with the mild winters we have)! We have many different species of ticks that live in our area, each with the potential to carry a few different tick-borne diseases. It is extremely important to make sure your pet keeps up to date with their Heartworm, Flea, Tick and Intestinal Parasite prevention. There are many products out on the market (prescription and over-the-counter), but they are not all created equal or endure the same safety testing and efficiency as others. We are here to answer any questions you may have. We will help guide you in picking out effective, safe and individualized products based on your pet’s life-style. Just as equally important is having your pet’s f***l sample tested for intestinal parasites at least annually. Intestinal parasites can cause many illness related diseases for your pets, and some of these parasites can also be passed directly to people. Having your pet screened annually for Heartworm Disease as well as some of the most common tick-borne diseases in our area is important in order to catch things early. It is Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week!! Let's give a HUGE shout out to Kim! She is our compassionate, fun-loving, knower-of-all clients, mama bear! It is time to celebrate her and all she does for everyone here at Higganum Vet Clinic!

Here is a little more about Kim that you may not know!

Veterinary Receptionist

I graduated from Mercy High School in 1989. I have been a long time resident of Killingworth and Haddam for 30 plus years. I have worked at Citizens Bank in Higganum for 12 years and went on to become a receptionist at Higganum Veterinary Clinic in 2017. I am Trupanion Certified and also Fear Free Certified as I strive to make your pet’s visit the easiest it can be. Since I was a child I always had a deep connection to both domestic and wildlife animals. Since living in town for so many years I have seen children grow up here and start their own families in town. I have two grown children and two wonderful grandchildren whom I adore. I share my home with my husband, three cats and two dogs. I enjoy the outdoors, fishing on our boat and have a deep passion for bird watching. I enjoy coming to work with my second family, working with the veterinarians and all our veterinary technicians with their knowledge and skills. I feel confident and know they are doing all they can to take care of all our fur babies from puppies to our seniors. I will continue to welcome all our pets, old and new, to a great establishment.
