We’ve been keeping a secret…

We are so excited to finally introduce the newest addition to our kennel — Mia! 💙🐾

Mia made the journey to us all the way from South Dakota, and we couldn’t be happier to have her here. She is FCI hip rated B and has elbows rated 0, giving us a wonderful foundation as we look toward her future here with us.

We’ve been keeping Mia under wraps while we let her settle in, get comfortable, learn our routine, and get to know everyone. But now that she’s had some time to make herself at home, we figured it was finally time to let everyone in on our little secret! And let us tell you… this girl is a BIG sweetheart! She has already stolen our hearts with her sweet, loving personality, and we are absolutely smitten with her. 🥰

We are so excited to watch Mia grow, develop, and become a part of our future here. We have some big hopes for this beautiful girl, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds!

I have been dreading making this post, and I was hoping that if I put it off long enough, maybe something would change. But that’s not going to happen. You guys know I pride myself on being transparent with all of you and with my breeding program.

Back in July, we took Zosia in for her PennHIP evaluation and preliminary OFA elbow X-rays. She passed her PennHIP, but unfortunately, she failed her left elbow due to a UAP (Ununited Anconeal Process).

After doing my own research and talking with other breeders and owners, I found that it’s a widely debated topic. Some believe it’s genetic, while others believe it’s the result of an injury, especially when only one elbow is affected.

I decided to give OFA a call to see what they had to say, and the doctor I spoke with was wonderful! They explained that OFA considers UAP to be genetic, but they have yet to identify the genetic markers or determine what causes it to randomly appear after three to five generations of clear, normal results. That left me confused and with more questions than answers.

It was suggested that we have a CT scan performed to get a better evaluation of her elbow. So now, we’re on the hunt for a clinic that can perform the scan. Although I’ve had no luck in the Columbia area, I’m not giving up and plan to branch out to larger cities. We want to explore all of our options before making the difficult decision of whether to retire her from our breeding program.

Say a little prayer for us and for Zosia. She has never shown any signs of pain or discomfort and is still her sweet, lovable self! 💙
