🐾 Protect Your Pets from Fleas, Ticks, and Heartworms! 🦟

Keeping your pets safe from fleas, ticks, and heartworms is one of the most important parts of year-round care. These pests aren’t just annoying; they can cause serious health problems for your pets.

Even though it’s getting chilly here in Nebraska, it’s still important to keep your pets on prevention year-round. Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes can survive well into the colder months, and they’ll be back before you know it!

When buying preventatives, always be careful where you purchase them. Some online sources may sell products that are expired, counterfeit, or not guaranteed by the manufacturer. If you’re unsure where to buy safe and effective preventatives, give us a call! Our team can help you find the best option for your pet’s needs. You can also access our trusted online pharmacy directly through our website at woodlandah.com!

See the infographic below for more details on how fleas, ticks, and heartworms can affect your pets. 👇

🐾 Happy Veterinary Technician Week! 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the heartbeat of Woodland Animal Hospital — our amazing veterinary technicians! ❤️

Our vet techs do so much more than people realize. They’re the hands, eyes, and hearts of our team. From checking vitals, assisting in surgery, placing IV catheters, and running lab work, to comforting nervous pets, monitoring anesthesia, updating medical charts, and communicating with owners, they do it all with compassion and precision every single day.

Their dedication keeps our patients safe, healthy, and loved.

Join us in thanking our incredible techs for everything they do behind the scenes to make Woodland Animal Hospital such a special place! 🐶🐱💉🩺

UPDATE: OWNER HAS BEEN LOCATED AND SHE’S BACK WITH HER FAMILY!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR EVERYONE’S HELP!
Anyone recognize this dog? She’s very sweet and was found running around at Norris football stadium Sunday around 4p. Please comment below if you know who the owner is so we can get them reunited. (Has a collar but no tags)

This past week, members of our veterinary team had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at the Birthing Pavilion at the Nebraska State Fair! 🐣🐑🐮

We were honored to help care for expectant animals, assist in live births, and educate the public about the amazing process of animal reproduction and veterinary care. It’s always inspiring to share our passion for veterinary medicine with fairgoers, especially the next generation of animal lovers and future vets!

🙌 A big thank-you to the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association and everyone who helps make this event such a success year after year. We’re proud to support agricultural education and celebrate the miracle of life…one baby calf, lamb, piglet, and chick at a time!

💬 Did you visit the Birthing Pavilion this year? Tell us your favorite moment below!

Woodland Animal Hospital vet, Dr. Katie Roth, volunteered her time and expertise in her hometown of Deshler to serve as co-superintendent for this year’s Thayer County 4-H Horse Show.

From early morning setup to the final class of the day, Dr. Roth was behind the scenes making sure everything ran smoothly. Coordinating entries, managing the show ring, supporting youth participants, and keeping things on schedule are no small tasks but she handled it all with grace, patience, and a passion for the 4-H program.
The role of superintendent is key to making the horse show a positive, safe, and fun experience for everyone involved.

It’s community-minded folks like Dr. Roth who help make events like this possible, and memorable, for our youth.

🚨 Protect Your Pup AND Protect Yourself/Your Family🚨

Leptospirosis isn’t just a “country dog” concern; it’s in puddles at the park, soil after a rainstorm, and even carried by wildlife in your neighborhood.

🐾 Why it matters:
Lepto can cause serious illness in both dogs and people. And according to updated AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines (July 2024), the leptospirosis vaccine is now considered a core vaccine for all dogs, everywhere.

💉 Keeping your dog vaccinated isn’t just about their health, it’s about protecting the whole family.

📅 If your pup isn’t up to date on their vaccines, give us a call today to schedule their appointment!

It's in puddles at the park. 🏞️
It's in soil after a rainstorm. 🌧️
And in a recent Boston study, nearly 1 in 5 rats carried it. 🐀

As of July 2024, AAHA’s Canine Vaccination Guidelines now list the leptospirosis vaccine as core for all dogs, everywhere.

🚨 🍔 Just One “Little” Bite for Them = Potential Big Problems 🐾 🐶🍩

Think a bite of cheese or a piece of sausage won’t hurt? Think again! Even small table scraps or extras can quickly add up in calories for your pup, and lead to serious weight gain or health risks over time.

We know those puppy eyes are hard to resist, but here’s the truth:
👀 “Just one little bite” of cheese, meat, or table scraps can add up fast for your pet.

🧀 A slice of cheese to a dog is like a human eating an entire burger in calories.
🥓A small strip of bacon? That’s more like a greasy pizza slice for them.

Not only can table scraps lead to weight gain, but many human foods (onions, grapes, garlic, xylitol, fatty cuts of meat, etc.) can cause serious digestive issues, or worse.

📊 Just look at this chart!
👉 One rawhide = nearly 700 calories
👉 60g of cheddar cheese = 242 calories (that’s like 2+ doughnuts!)
👉 Even a single biscuit = 7% of their daily intake!

It’s the equivalent of us eating multiple doughnuts, just for a snack! 🍩😳

🐾 ✨ Stick to pet-safe treats in moderation, and save the cheeseburgers for yourself. Your pet’s waistline, organs, and long-term health will thank you!
