A sea of grass… all around… 🌱 ☀️🐮

We get asked often if we are really “grass fed and finished beef” and the answer is YES!

We have our animals on forages their whole life, and when they can’t graze we feed stored forages like baleage (fermented hay that is super nutritious) or dry hay.

We graze diverse forages including cool season grass mixes, legumes, herbs, native warm season grasses, forbs (many times called weeds… but we call them forage!) and woodland edge plants. 🪴 All which help by increasing the nutrient density of our beef. 🥩

This is just a small capture of the grass on the farm… know your farmer know where your food comes from!

The Big Barn from the late 1800’s had some visitors today… our heifer group moved up to graze what is called the “barnyard”, an area that was open soil for 70+ years, eroding, degrading, until you removed cows, gave the ground a rest, and allowed forage to actually set roots and thrive. Management - management - management = so important in the soil health journey… let plants have a minimum of 45 days rest in between grazing…. And consider bale grazing if you have low organic matter…
