Meet Frankie my Morkie. People think that groomers personal dogs must love baths and grooms. This little man is the one to tell you that "bath" is a four letter word. 7lbs of dog can dissappear fast when that word gets mentioned.

As we thaw out there are a few things to keep in mind for your dogs sake.

When the frost comes out of the ground you will start finding things that used to be buried in your soil. Things like metal or glass are extra concerning.

Here are a few tips on how to help your pet stay safe.

1. Check their paws daily for any cracks, splits and cuts. Look in between the toe beans too.

2. Take a stroll around your dogs most frequented play spaces. Look for anything sticking out of the ground that could be sharp.

3. Make sure you are up to date on vaccinations. Especially rabies and tetanus.

4. Apply a dog safe moisturizer, ointment or wax to your dogs toe beans (pads). This will keep them soft, flexible and healthy. It doesn't have to be the crazy expensive stuff. Coconut oil is great and the dogs love it. Apply it to their nose too.

5. If you used a lot of salt or ice melt over the winter hose the area down. This will dilute any remaining chemicals that can dry or burn your pets paw pads.

6. If their pads are dirty, dry or stinky give them a good wash with a gentle soap and warm water. A little pat dry and moisturizer will get them looking good again.

7. Don't forget your own feet. They need to be in good working order too. Your dog wants you to tag along on their adventures.

Additional charges may apply if your dog is matted or has significant behavior issues. This is not to penalize clients. It is specifically for the added time needed to complete your dogs groom.

I am also happy to send you and your pup home with homework. We need to work together as a team to do what is best for your pup.

• I will be honest with you regarding your dogs behavior. Telling pet parents their dog was great when it wasn’t is not helping the dog or the owner. Be honest, always.
