For Mocha’s final litter, I couldn’t have dreamed up a better match. Yay Otter! Some of the boys are starting look a lot like their sire. I’m going to be hard pressed not to keep a big milk chocolate boy as our new stud and bird dog.

Besides getting that first 'sit' at seven weeks or so, this is one of my favorite parts of my puppy-rearing hobby: Giving out collar colors and Litter Names! My kids love this part too. We've done trees, ski mountains, cities along Route 66, Greek gods (when Savana was studying Mythology in elementary school.)
This year since I was hitting a big birthday during Mocha's labor, I almost chose to name the puppies ailments of getting old.
(arthritis, dementia, hypertension)
..that was quickly voted down.

I love all colors of Labs. Yellow Labs take the best pictures and have angel wings on their shoulders. The shimmer of a Black Lab's coat when the late sun touches it is decadent and pure.

But Chocolate Labs make me feel like I'm never to far away from my other obsession...coffee! And like my playful Labs, coffee houses and the perfect whole milk wet cappuccino make me feel forever young.

Breeding Announcement! I'm excited for this nostalgia litter:

Mistletoe Mocha (Tycho daughter) X 4x GMPR HRCH Rattlin Ridge Otter McBunn MH QA2

Calling it a nostalgia litter because I met Otter when he was just a pup on a 2016 on trip to Glammis North/Nylund to breed Mocha's mom (Mia) with Otter's housemate/mentor gun dog (Jet). There was something special about this milk chocolate upstart that always stayed in the back of my mind. Now, prompted by a family who has a Mia X Jet boy (pictured) and wants a new puppy to train and love, we are extending the family.
Many thanks to Sharon for training and raising such amazing Labradors and making the logistics of getting Mocha to Washington state in the middle of Christmas such a breeze.

I love dogs, but after 15 years of hobby breeding and training versatile Labradors, it's the people I've met that keep me in the game. Sharon, Sean, James, Richard, Joshua...you are all salt-of-the-earth individuals.

We expect puppies from this litter to be versatile hunting Labs or simply fabulous family companions that you’ll want to take with you on most of your domestic vacations: snow, ocean, camping, lake, desert.

Both sire and dam have and throw natural pointing instinct (see Roxie pictured) and unfailing work ethic in water or land. Puppies will be great as amateur-trained hunting partners and could go far with hunt test/field trials.

The Ryker X Mocha pups are here just in time for Fall. These girls are all spoken for. One's going to a ranch, one is going out as a bird dog, and one will be camping and chasing sticks on a beach. I couldn't ask for a better grouping. There are slight differences in demeanor but all three were highly outgoing and catching our gaze the moment they opened their eyes... as if they were asking to be picked up out of the whelping box.

Breeding Announcement!! I've waited a long time to make a match of this caliber happen. (and it wasn't easy 😅). DAM: Mocha, my spunky little athlete and running partner and baby whisperer.
SIRE: 4X GMPR Ryker HRCH a true hunting and pointing machine and loyal best friend to a salt-of-the-earth country boy. Excited to meet these chocolate pups at the end of summer.

For the 1st time in 11 years, we are doing a Repeat Breeding after all the wonderful feedback we’ve received from puppies’ new owners. The happy couple MOCHA X SMOKE hails from champion hunting lines which makes for perfect hiking and jogging partners or endless games of fetch. Plus... the live for water!

“Matteo’s Mistletoe Mocha” is expecting puppies mid-October. She and her pack have kept us sane during many stay-at-home days. Remember when they closed the beaches on the weekend of the 4th? We drove Mia (the grandma) down south and found a cove in Laguna open to dogs AND humans.

Kona’s “Pearl” and Esperanza at Valley Park — backtrack 5 years and it’s Kona and Espe at the same park. How many times have our dogs gotten us out of the house to take a break from carpools/ homework/phones/ team sports commitments/work?? Thank You Kona for helping us stop to smell the roses ... and find the pearls.
