When your Lab freezes, lifts its nose to the wind and goes still, it is reading a story you cannot even sense. 👃
A Labrador's nose carries somewhere around 220 million scent receptors, compared to roughly 5 to 6 million in a human. They also have a second scent organ in the roof of the mouth that detects heavier molecules our noses have no equipment for at all.
This is why Labs excel at detection work of every kind, from tracking a trail to picking up subtle changes in the human body. To them the air is layered with information, like an invisible landscape stretched out in every direction. 🌫️
