With summer comes the heat, so make sure you practice proper heat management for your pup. 🐶☀️
1. Water (But There’s a Catch!)
It’s important not to overdo it with water, as too much at once can overwhelm their system and cause vomiting, which can lead to further dehydration. Avoid cold water. Cold water can do more harm than good to an overheated dog. Cool or lukewarm water is best.
2. Walking
When temperatures rise above 70°F, pavement can become hot enough to damage your dog’s paws. Walk on grass whenever possible or use protective boots.
3. Shade
Shade is one of the best ways to help your dog cool down. Staying still and out of direct sunlight can make a big difference.
4. Check Their Tongue
If your dog’s tongue is hanging out long and has a pear shape at the end, they may be overheating. Use the tips above to help bring their body temperature down.
