Meet Elvis, a 5 yr old, 70-pound, neutered, coonhound mix. He is up-to-date on vaccinations. Elvis is potty-trained and crate-trained.
Elvis is a shy and sweet boy who thrives on routine. He is smart and loves puzzles, stuffed Kongs, and snuggling under a warm blanket. This goofy boy loves to lope around the backyard sniffing everything his keen nose can find. After a good exercise session, he likes to snuggle on the couch or settle in on a dog bed to chew a bone. He gets along wonderfully with cats either ignoring them or playing a friendly game of chase now and then. He tolerates other dogs as long as their personalities mesh - but would probably prefer to be an only dog.
Elvis was adopted as a puppy in February 2020 just before the world shut down from Covid. As a result, Elvis had limited exposure to people. Although loving and loyal to his family, he struggles with meeting new people. He thrives on routine and quiet. At home with his family, Elvis is a relaxed couch potato. When disruptions occur to his routine and quiet (household guests, toddlers, rambunctious dogs, car trips, vet visits) he becomes very anxious and develops big feelings around the situation. Elvis's foster family is diligently working to improve these reactions, but it is our experience that this type of behavior is typically managed, not eliminated. It will be important for Elvis's adoptive family to recognize his limitations and set appropriate expectations. Hedgesville Hounds will work with the new family to ensure they learn the skills necessary to enjoy Elvis's devoted companionship.
