Hedgesville Hounds

Hedgesville Hounds www.hedgesvillehounds.com The Hedgesville Hound group is an all breed dog rescue that was formally established in 2003. Hedgesville Hounds exist everywhere.

We are a 501(c)(3) organization comprised of people who have several decades of combined experience and a general love for animals. Although there is a Hedgesville, and we have definitely placed a fair number of hounds in homes, the term Hedgesville Hounds has become more emblematic than actual. It has its origins in one specific rescue that became quite inspirational to a number of volunteers. It

has since captured in its scope the determination of many people with a common interest - dogs - and an uncommon commitment to helping them. What began as an effort to help a single group of dogs in terrible need, gained momentum as these dogs were successfully placed in wonderful homes. The dogs became a kind of rallying cry, a challenge, and a cause. They are dogs of every breed - every size - every age - who by circumstance, ignorance, or cruelty and neglect, were put at risk. Sometimes they are cats, and even rabbits. Our effort has been quite simple - to give them a voice. And a little help with arrangements. And then let these wonderful creatures do the rest.

Looking for a new home----Meet Lewis. A 6.5 yo, 78 lbs, neutered good boy. He is up to date on all vaccines (rabies, dhlpp, Lyme, bordetella) and is microchipped. Dental done in 2025.

Lewis had heartworms when his owner adopted him. He was treated and has had negative tests since. The owner has preventatives she will send with the adopter. There was one episode of seizures once, which never happened again; the doctors were not worried unless it happened again.

Lewis is the sweetest boy, but he does come with some challenges. He does not know any commands. He does jump on people (he does not realize he weighs so much). He likes to run away and is an escape artist. He will even climb fences. Lewis pulls on a leash.
Lewis is perfectly house-trained and won’t use the bathroom inside, ever. He will let you know if he can’t hold it anymore. He is good with children, but is not aware of his size compared to them. So he will accidentally knock them over and step on their feet. He is good with cats and other dogs.

Meet Huck
SO sweet, affable, loving, and simply adorable, Huck (aka Huckleberry Hound) is everything a hound should be. He loves to sniff, he is a happy guy, and at eight-years old he is quite chill! He is easy in the house - very well behaved. Huck wants to be near his people. His foster tells us he spends most of his day sleeping, but is ready for a walk every few hours and food whenever it is given to him. He LOVES going for walks. He doesn't pull hard (unless a silly squirrel lets him get close) but finds great joy in sniffing all the great smells. Don't you want a dose of enthusiasm in your day?

While waiting for his food to be put down, his tail is constantly wiggling while he sits. He is generally quiet in the house unless he hears dogs in the neighborhood barking and wants to see why. Huck is not all that interested in toys. He gets into his open crate on his own at bedtime and sleeps there all night with the door open. He is house-trained. He is good about not getting on the furniture and loves his cozy bed.

A good boy who loves to please, Huck will make a great companion for an individual or a family. With a loving person who will give him walks, guidance, and affection, he will be a faithful companion and best friend. Huck loves neck and belly rubs and ear scratches. He wants to connect with people, and he will appreciate the comforts of a home and a soft touch. Will you be the person who gives that gift to this deserving guy!?

Meet Zero. Isn’t he a beauty!

Zero is in need of a forever home. He is a 2 year old. Calm demeanor. Smart pup. Neutered and up to date with vaccinations.

The previous owners had him DNA tested. He has husky, pit bull, rottie, lab, with a possible sprinkling of boarder collie and pyrenees. 100% mutt. Beautiful dog.

He is perfect on leash and rarely barks in the house. He seems fine with other animals but a meet and greet before adoption would be best.

He needs a home with room to run and lots of love.

If you are interested in adopting Zero, please call Pam at 540-742-5920 for more information.

Meet Bandito!

Bandito is a 2-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix (we believe) rescued from West Virginia, and he’s a whole lot of love wrapped up in a handsome hound body. Weighing about 45–55 lbs (just a tad overweight), Bandito is fully vetted, neutered, heartworm negative, and kept on Simparica Trio.

This sweet boy is incredibly cuddly and absolutely loves being the center of attention. He’s affectionate, food-motivated, and eager to please—especially if treats are involved! Bandito knows several commands including sit, stay, paw, and circle, and he does great at the dog park.

As a true hound, Bandito has an impressive nose and loves to follow it, which means he’s not an off-leash kind of guy. He walks best on a harness with the leash clipped at the chest and continues to improve with consistent practice. He also loves his voice and isn’t shy about using it—classic hound behavior!
Bandito does wonderfully with our 6-year-old child and is very gentle. He also lives with a cat; while he doesn’t chase her, he does like to “talk” to her from time to time. He enjoys toys, especially ones he can take apart, but cow hooves, bones, and balls are his absolute favorites.

Bandito can be dog selective, so a meet-and-greet with any potential canine housemates would be important.
If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate, talkative companion with tons of personality, Bandito might just be your perfect match. 💙🐶

Bandito is located in the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania County area. Please contact Lexi at [email protected] if you are interested in more information about Bandito.

Ruby needs a home! Ruby showed up at a worksite in a clear state of neglect, starved and dehydrated, almost like she had been living in the woods for some time. With great care from the family who took her in, she has regained weight and strength, and she’s now healthy and thriving. The family wants to find her the right long-term home.

About Ruby:
Mixed-breed (mutt)
Estimated age: ~6 years old
Weight: ~50 lbs
Spay status: thought to be spayed
Medical: Full vet check-up completed; up to date on vaccines per our vet in Highland
Training: House-trained and crate-trained
Temperament: Very sweet, playful, and affectionate (big cuddler); does great with our other dog; good with kids and family life, she seems to do best with older kiddos (calmer/more predictable)
Learning style: Responds really well to training, routines, and positive reinforcement, eager to learn and please.

Courtesy Post. Sweet Henry needs a forever home. He is a 2 year old blue tick Beagle. Henry is good with older children 9+. He is not food aggressive, but is possessive of his toys. He is under socialized and may do best as an only dog. If interested individuals have another dog, they should meet. He is not neutered or UTD on vaccinations. His neuter and vetting will be sponsored. He needs a loving and stable home to be the best little Beagle he is meant to be. Interested individuals should send a message to our FB Messenger and we will forward your inquiry to the person helping him.
