Training a puppy can be intimidating for some families. If you are having trouble training your puppy, check your routine for these common mistakes! 🐾

1. Inconsistency - This is so confusing for puppies. One second they are scolded for jumping on the furniture and 15 minutes later, they are told to jump on the bed with you to cuddle. Make sure you set clear expectations and stick to them!

2. Mental stimulation - Puppies need a lot of mental and physical stimulation to keep them out of trouble! Most families get the physical stimulation met pretty easy, but they lack the mental stimulation. Puzzle games, treat toys that hide their treat, and snuffle mats are great mental stimulation exercises to do when a pup becomes bored!

3. Punishment vs. Positive Reinforcement - Some families think that punishment is the best way to train their puppies. Try to change this into positive reinforcement. Reward good behavior instead of only scolding bad behavior. Punishment can cause aggression and fear, which only sets your puppy back and is not healthy.

4. High Expectations - Some people just forget that these are puppies! They are going to have energy and they are going to get into things they shouldn’t. Heck, they might even chew up your favorite pair sunglasses. This doesn’t mean your puppy is aggressive or untrainable. This is the puppy stage. It can be chaotic and stressful at times, but learn to have grace with them. Soon enough they will be adult doggos and they will be your best friend!
