If your dog is bitten by a snake, it's essential to seek veterinary care immediately. Snake bites can be life-threatening, and timely intervention is crucial. The best treatment available is antivenin, which is specifically designed to counteract the effects of venom. Administering antivenin within hours of the bite significantly improves the chances of a positive outcome and can prevent the symptoms from worsening.

When a snake bites, the venom can cause various reactions, including swelling, pain, difficulty breathing, and even internal bleeding. These symptoms can escalate rapidly, so recognizing the signs and getting your dog to the vet quickly is vital. Antivenin works by neutralizing the venom in the body, providing a crucial line of defense against its harmful effects.

The sooner antivenin is given, the more effective it is at mitigating the damage caused by the venom. Delaying treatment can lead to severe complications, including organ failure or even death. In some cases, the effects of the venom can continue to progress even after the initial symptoms appear, making prompt treatment even more critical.

Recently, Oberon, one of our certified veterinary technician’s beloved dogs, stepped up in a life-saving mission. When another dog was in dire need of an emergency splenectomy, Oberon didn’t hesitate to donate blood, helping to secure a brighter future for his canine friend.

A huge thank you to Melissa and her husband at Freedom’s Calling Canine Training for allowing us to utilize their incredible boy for this urgent need. Your willingness to share Oberon’s life-saving gift exemplifies the true spirit of teamwork and compassion in our veterinary community.

This event is a powerful reminder of how our furry friends can make a significant difference in each other's lives. Together, we can achieve amazing things! ❤️☺️🐾

Sweet Arrow was feeling painful shortly after receiving his vaccines…we happened to find out that he ate several pebbles that were causing him pain/discomfort along with pain at one of the site of his injections. We hope he is feeling much better now! 💕

Usually our patients love sitting in this baby gated kennel cause we make it cozy for them…this patient was less happy than usual 😆

This sweet pup had a left coxofemoral luxation (dislocated hip); we confirmed this diagnosis with x-rays. We then administered a pain injection and sedation. Dr. Ashley was able to manually reduced the hip back into its proper position. We hope she continues to have a smooth recovery over the next 2-3 months.

🐾 Meet Lieutenant Dan, a spirited cat who was diagnosed with an abscess on his forearm. This painful condition is often caused by cat bites, which can introduce bacteria into the skin, leading to an infection.

Abscesses can be quite uncomfortable for cats, and it’s important for pet owners to recognize the signs. If you notice swelling, lethargy, loss of appetite, or a fever in your cat, these could be indicators of an underlying problem. Prompt attention is crucial, as untreated abscesses can lead to more serious complications.

When Lieutenant Dan came in, our team acted quickly. After examining him, we drained the abscess to relieve pressure and prescribed antibiotics to fight the infection.

We are thankful to partner with the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office - Arkansas and provide a place for continued training. We enjoy giving back to our community in any way we can.

Giant thanks to Wes and the crew at Veterinary Urgent Care on Pangburn Road. They partner with us regularly to allow the Sheriff's Office access to vacant sections of their building for training. This week and next week our office is conducting building clearing and active shooter training using the space provided by them. We are grateful for their partnership!
