The Friends of Northumberland County Animal Shelter is HIRING a part time THRIFT SHOP MANAGER! The Thrift Shop Manager is Responsible for the overall operation of the Friends of the Northumberland County Animal Shelter (FNCAS) Thrift Shop, in Burgess, Virginia.
The Thrift Shop Manager's job includes facility management and daily operations of the shop, inventory, facility, and financial management. The Thrift Shop Manager supervises volunteers; oversees pricing, online sales, outreach, and donation processing. Ensures quality customer service. Salary is negotiable.
The FNCAS Thrift Shop generates proceeds to assist our shelter dogs and cats by paying for medical procedures including numerous treatments for heartworm positive dogs, enrichment items such as fencing for our play yards and special diet cat food and dog food

With the post we did yesterday about recent parvo cases in the Northern Neck and the importance of DHLPP immunizations we got some questions regarding Pet Vet Clinics. If you do not have a veterinarian or are only off work on Sundays, this is a great way to get immunizations. ( fees for services) No appointment necessary but you can schedule an appointment online. vippetcare.com We are listing hours for Gloucester Tractor Supply PetVet clinic and Kilmarnock Tractor Supply PetVet Clinic. These hours are online but best to call and confirm before heading there. PLEASE NOTE: Gloucester appears to be every Sunday for the next 5 weeks, 4:00 to 5:30 and Kimarnock is every other Sunday, 1:00 to 2:30

We have so many kittens just waiting to pull heartstrings of their human love matches. For twice the fun and built in playmates adopt two for just one adoption fee. If you are thinking of adopting two our managers or volunteers can tell you which ones are housed together or play togetger regularly. Here is just a snippet of some of the cuties in the cat room this morning. Making an appearance in the video.are Cosmos, Eclipse and Orion ( males) and Stella ( female) Their sibling, Nova, who has long hair, missed out on screen time as she was on the lower level of the condo! There was a hubbub of activity as wonderful volunteers Lin, Dave and Kathleen got everyone cleaned and fed. We are delighted to introduce kittens or cats to you! If our open hours aren't convenient for you, give us a call, please, at 804 580 6156 and we will make an appointment for you to come in for meet and greets!

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT:There has been an increased number of parvo cases in our area, and many regions. This signage is at our veterinarian office in Heathsville. This is a reminder to please have your dogs up to date on their DHLPP immunization. The DHLPP vaccine is very effective at prevention. If you do not have a veterinarian many Tractor Supply stores have a clinic come in every two weeks and for a reasasonable fee will do vaccinations. Tractor Supply also sells the vaccine. Be especially mindful of puppies until they are fully vaccinated, please.

You may have seen our post yesterday after Honey got a wonderful grooming. Here is a little video of Honey and Rodie enjoying time with one of our wonderful volunteers, Jen E. Honey and her friend Rodi are looking for a forever home. We would be delighted if they found a home together. . Honey is 10 years old and a petite 11 pounds, perhaps a Shih Tsu mix? She is very gentle and loves attention. In terms of expenses, it's important to note she will need regular brushing and grooming. Honey has a best friend, a large, kind, attentive fellow, Rodie. Rodie is 90 pounds of a low key and amicable personality. Rodie is 9 years old or so.Honey is not used to walking on a leash., but we are working on it. She currently prefers to be living in the lap of luxury by being carried.
Honey is scheduled for dental work in about two weeks. You can apply for Honey in the meantime and hopefully might have room in your heart for these two seniors together. Rodie has been seen for an ear infection and is on meds. His legs have some senior aches and pains. They both have loving, even temperaments and are very sweet with each other.

A huge thank you to Sami and The Salty Dog Spaw, LLC . Sami donated her time and work to give Honey a beautiful makeover grooming! We are so appreciative. We have included a pre glamor session picture of Honey to show what a fabulous job Sami did! Honey is looking for a forever home. She is 10 years old and a petite 11 pounds.perhaps a Shih Tsu mix? Grant is one of our newer residents in the cat room, but already the accolades are pouring in! Grant has been described as incredibly friendly and sweet. Yes, he has been turning on the charm! This handsome fellow is about two years old. Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck of the NNK provides a certificate to cover the cost of neutering at local veterinarians. Thank you, A.W.L! Grant loves attention and affection so if you are looking for a loving companion Grant may be " The One".

Nikolaj of the mesmerizing eyes wants to introduce himself. Nikolaj is quite the charming fellow. He has dashing looks, but, of course, choosing a companion involves far more important things. Nikolaj walks quite well on a leash and adds some manners to his checklist. He enjoys people and has been consistently open to spending time with many different staff and volunteers. Nikolaj is 55 pounds and a year and a half old. He is probably a husky mix and definitely a head turner. We are still getting to know him but it appears he may be somewhat protective of his food. Perhaps not a great fit for very young kiddos for that reason. He has lived with two female dogs in the past so there is every reason to think he could have a canine sibling if it is the right fit. Much like people, even dog friendly pups don't like every dog. We are happy to help with a meet and greet if you have another dog. Nikolaj would be happy as an only dog as well, soaking up all the attention.

June is ADOPT A CAT MONTH! We have many kitties waiting to meet their human love match! In addition to our shelter, please consider adopting from Garfield's Rescue, Inc., Cat Cove Inc., Northern Neck Partners for Pets All three are rescues in the Northern Neck area and greatly assist Northumberland County Animal Shelter. In addition, depending on where you live King George Animal Rescue League, Freckles Foundation & Animal Rescue, Jeepin For Paws and Richmond SPCA have kindly assisted us and have kitties ( and dogs) for adoption. When you adopt from rescues ( or alternatively donate to them) it allows those rescues to continue to provide support and assistance to public shelters. And while we are expressing gratitude many thanks to Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck for generously paying for spaying or neutering for every one of our shelter cats and dogs.
