Meat is awesome, but it doesn’t have calcium! 🥩
Feeding dogs an exclusive, boneless, all-meat diet—whether raw or cooked—creates a massive calcium-to-phosphorus imbalance. Without a proper calcium source like bone, the body is forced to pull calcium straight from the skeleton to keep blood levels stable, leading to nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism.
A striking case series examined four large-breed puppies fed exclusively boneless, non-supplemented raw meat diets. All four suffered from severe pain and skeletal weakness, with two developing pathological fractures that tragically resulted in euthanasia.
If you’re making home-prepared meals or feeding a raw diet, balance isn’t optional—it’s everything. Make sure you’re getting those ratios right!

A few extra pounds on your dog might not seem like a big deal, but studies show overweight pups live on average two years less than leaner dogs. 📉🐶
If you’re ever wondering whether your dog is a bit too thick or too lean, it’s usually better to err on the slightly leaner side (without underfeeding, of course).
A huge trap people fall into is switching dog foods without checking the calorie count per cup. Going from a 300-calorie food to a 400-calorie food while keeping the exact same scoop size means an extra 200 calories a day—and before you know it, the scale starts creeping up.

Transparency matters. 🐾
When it comes to feeding our dogs, guessing what’s actually in the bag shouldn’t be part of the routine. I really appreciate how Victor breaks down their protein sources right on the label—showing us exactly what percentage comes from meat, plants/veggies, and grains.
