The Perry County Fiscal Court and The City of Hazard are heading up this flood relief effort. We were so lucky to have communities and organizations help us in our time of need. Lets pay it forward.
GIVING BACK: IT’S OUR TURN NOW (UPDATED OCTOBER 2)
In the aftermath of the recent flooding in Tennessee and North Carolina, many of our neighbors are facing overwhelming challenges as they begin to clean up their homes and rebuild their lives. Of course, many Perry Countians know exactly what this is like from personal experience. Essential cleaning supplies are desperately needed to assist families in recovering from the damage--and the sooner, the better. You can make a difference right now!
We are accepting donations of the following types of cleaning supplies and equipment:
*Generators
*Flat shovels, snow shovels, rakes
*Wheelbarrows
*Crowbars, pry bars
*Heavy duty plastic totes
*5 gallon buckets
*Heavy duty tarps
*Mops, brooms, dustpans
*Heavy duty contractor trash bags
*Gloves (both disposable and heavy-duty)
*Sponges, scrub brushes
*Wire brushes
*Concrobium (not bleach) for eliminating and preventing mold
*Disinfectants, including bleach, for general cleaning
*Paper towels and rags

If you'd prefer to make a MONETARY donation, our friends at the Appalachia Funders Network have set up the Appalachian Helene Response Fund to support those affected by the storm. By donating to this fund, you can rest assured that your donation will go directly to community foundations and nonprofits who can quickly get funds to people in need. If you would like to donate to support recovery efforts, visit https://bit.ly/appheleneresponsefund
In addition, some of our local businesses are selling items with 100% of the profits going to flood survivors.
Coal Country Candles also have a "Candles for a Cause" section on their website and they have created a special candle; the scent is called "One Appalachia." 100% of the profits from the "One Appalachia" candles that they sell will be donated to the Appalachian Helene Impact Fund. You may purchase from their website using this link: https://www.coalcountrycandles.com/candles-for-a-cause
They will ship anywhere in the US, or you can select the option to pick up in-store if you are local and they will email you when your order is ready. They will also have inventory in-store beginning Thursday, October 3 for walk-in purchases.
If you would like to purchase a Hell or High Water t-shirt or sweatshirt, Read Spotted Newt will donate all proceeds to flood relief. They are doing this in conjunction with Pathfinders of Perry County Kentucky. Here is the link to order shirts: https://www.readspottednewt.com/.../come-hell-or-high.../
