Living on a farm and showing dogs has always been a childhood dream of mine. So many of you have watched my dogs and goats and chickens grow up through this page, but I’ve sold the farm and won’t be breeding Shibas or Kinders for the foreseeable future. I’m leaving the page active for the memories. If you have a critter from me I’d love to see a where are they now picture in the comments. Thanks again for your support. 💕

✨️ Now Available: Balto! ✨️

Hi, I’m Balto. I’m a 3-year-old male Shiba Inu who weighs about 24 pounds. I am sweet, playful and cuddly. I love to play fetch and get my zoomies out, but I also love belly rubs and to lounge on the couch.

I get along with other dogs - if you introduce me properly - and I love people of all
ages. I currently live with a little and as long as he respects my space, we get along just fine. I have a pretty high prey drive for squirrels, so I probably shouldn’t live with any cats. 🚫🐱

I walk well on a leash and can go to a furever family that doesn’t have a fenced-in yard, but will ALWAYS need to be on a leash when I’m not in a very secure space. If I do find a family that has a fence, it will need to be VERY secure. Otherwise, I will find any breaches in order to escape and go on my very own adventures.

I can be pretty vocal when I’m first left alone and I don’t get my way, so I shouldn’t live where there are shared walls. My family will need to be sure to keep up with my training to make sure I continue to be a polite member of the family. I am potty-trained and am working on crate-training, even though I can be fully trusted outside of my crate.

🚨 IMPORTANT: If you are interested in Balto, please email her personal secretary at [email protected] and let us know why you think your family would be a perfect home for this little nugget. We are an all-volunteer rescue, so it may take time to receive a response. Please limit to one email per family - we thank you in advance for your patience! 🚨

Hi, I’m Murphy. I’m a 4-year old, male Shiba Inu who weighs about 24 pounds. I loooooove being the center of attention and the more pets and cuddles I get, the better. I also love going for walks, chasing squirrels and taking long naps. My foster mama calls me Mr. Personality – I mean, just look at me and my adorable smile. I haven’t met a person I don’t like, big or little, but I may be best-suited with kids who are stable on their feet so I don’t knock over anyone while asking for pets.

I generally like other dogs but can be dog-selective, so I’d ideally be any only dog or live in a home with a non-reactive dog I can cuddle with and play with on my terms. I should be able to live with cats, too. Given that I don’t require a fenced-in yard, and really only “crazy bark” at unfamiliar dogs I see outside, I may even be able to live in the right apartment.

I can generally be trusted out of my crate, but do like to chew on anything that resembles a stuffie, so my new family will want to be aware of that so I don’t get into anything I shouldn’t or that could be dangerous to me. I’m potty-trained but with any dog in a new environment, I may have some “accidents” as I transition. I know several commands and am both treat- and affection-motivated so can likely learn a bunch more!

One of the coolest things about me is that I’m a heartworm survivor! Yay, me!!! And although I deserve a parade for getting through the very difficult process of treating those horrible heartworms, it doesn’t really mean much for my furever family, aside from that I should be on HW preventatives year round. Easy peasy.

🚨 IMPORTANT: If you are interested in Murphy, please email his personal secretary [email protected] and let us know why you are his perfect home! Please note that we are an all volunteer rescue and it may take some time to receive a response. Please limit to one email per family – thank you in advance for your patience! 🚨

Meet Bella!

If we had to choose just 3 words to describe this beautiful pup, we'd go with sweet, spunky & playful.🐾

She is incredibly smart & catches on to things quickly - but like most puppies (& really Shibas in general!) is willing to test boundaries to see what she can get away with. This includes her yard - her foster home says she definitely likes to climb, and she is still working on not jumping up on people when she meets them.

Bella has not met any children of her own, but has shown interest in the neighborhood children when they walk by.

She has done well with other pups, though she is a little more timid around larger dogs. She does have a tendency to chase the cats at her current foster home, so her future home would likely need to work on behavior or have a dog-confident cat.

Bella does enjoy attention from the humans sometimes and will even snuggle up to them, but mostly enjoys exploring her environments and playing.

While she loves to explore and adventure, she does suffer from a little bit of car sickness so may not be the best fit for a family that likes to road trip.

🚨 If you think this gorgeous gal would be a good fit for you and your family, please email her personal secretary [email protected] and let us know why you think she'd be your perfect fit. We are an all-volunteer rescue, so it may take time to receive a response. Please limit to one email per- we thank you in advance for your patience! 🚨

Now Available for Adoption: Cheddar 🧀

Cheddar is a 6-year-old male who is currently being fostered in the Chicago, IL area.

Cheddar came to MSIR after his prior owner, suffering from Alzheimer's, had to surrender him to a local shelter. Cheddar is a Shiba through & through, and proved to be a little too much for their normal foster homes to handle. For this reason, we'd recommend having prior Shiba experience or be ready & willing to engage in positive reinforcement training!

Cheddar takes a little while to warm up to new people and will need a patient home to give him that chance. It took him weeks to warm up to his foster dad, but now he will cuddle with him on occasion.

Cheddar loves to look out the window and guard his house, which can be noisy. He will calm down once you close the blinds, however.

He loves to sit on furniture and will sleep with you in the bed if you let him. He also enjoys playing in the yard, and does well on a leash.

Cheddar is very much your classic Shiba - stubborn, stand offish, prey-driven, escape artist, and leery of strangers.

He has his quirks, but we know his perfect home is out there. Could that be you?!
