I got a phone call a few days ago from a lady that said that she has a very aggressive Rottweiler.
I asked her how long that he has been this way?
I asked her if he has been to a trainer?
She said that he was to a trainer that used a folding chair.
I asked her what for? She said the trainer used the chair and pushed it in front of her dog.
I asked her, what did the dog do?
She said that her dog tried to get around the chair and get at the trainer.
I asked her what the trainer did then?
She said the trainer threw treats on the floor in front of the dog and backed up.
I asked her how well that went? and she said it didn't go well.
I told her that the trainer just rewarded the dog for bad behavior.
I told her that you can't avoid bad behavior, you have to deal with it.
I told her that I always have the owner put on a training collar and one of my leashes and I always tell the owner what the dog might do and what I am going to do and then I have the owner hand me the leash and I will always try to set the dog up so that if it is going to go after me I will be ready for it.
I told her that my job is to set the dog to try to go after me rather than someone else.
She asked me if I have ever been bitten by an aggressive dog?
I told her that I have never been bitten by an agressive dog, because I am setting it up and I know it's coming so I am always ready for it.
I told her the most aggressive dog that I have ever worked with is the German Shepherd sitting next to me on my website.
He was very well known by the West Fargo Police Dept. The owner placed him with me when he was just over two years old.
He turned out to be one of the most gentle dogs.
He could be around children and my 91 year old Grandmother at the time could walk next to him and hold onto his collar and he would slowly walk by her side.
I told her that I have had two major back surgeries and right now I would be unable to do what needs to be done.
I told her that I unable to refer to another trainer, because I know of no one in the area that can do this training for you.
I told her to keep me posted and I told her that I might be able to help her in the near future.
