Shedding Season is Here – Let’s Talk Double Coated Dogs! 🐶🐶
As the weather warms up, you might notice your double-coated dogs shedding more than usual. This is completely normal! Double-coated breeds, like Australian Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Huskies, German Shepherds, Saint Bernard, Great Pyranees and Border Collies, have a protective coat that adjusts to the seasons by shedding their undercoat.
Why You Shouldn’t Shave a Double-Coated Dog
It might seem like shaving your pup will help them stay cooler, but it actually does the opposite! Their coat serves as natural insulation, keeping them warm in winter and cool in summer by regulating body temperature. Shaving can damage their coat, expose them to sunburn, and make it harder for them to stay comfortable in extreme temperatures.
What You Can Do Instead:
✔️ Brush regularly – Help remove the loose undercoat with a de-shedding tool or undercoat rake.
✔️ Baths help – A good bath and blow-dry can loosen and remove excess fur.
✔️ Proper diet – A healthy coat starts from within! Omega-3s and quality food support skin and coat health.
✔️ Professional grooming – Ask for a deshedding treatment instead of a shave.
