If you know Little River Friesians you knew Truus…
She was known as the ‘Queen of LRF’. While she didn’t always greet everyone with a happy expression and kisses, her presence and stature were undeniably the most outstanding, regal and exquisite of any Friesian. She was known throughout the world for her show stopping movement, size, and self confidence. She was a very rare MODEL MARE! Imported to the US to improve the breed, she produced TEN incredible foals in her lifetime! She was an idol and everyone wanted a Truus foal. We are so grateful to still have her only US born filly Tempest LRF at our farm as well as her c**t Wylde LRF.
Truus was the type who requested to leave this world with dignity while still possessed her incredible presence. She let us know that she was struggling at the begginning of the summer and we honored her request of humanely letting her go. She is happy and comfortable running free and bossing everyone around in horse heaven.
Truus commanded you attention when in studio with . You have never seen a horse look so intensely into the camera and truly strike a pose. Truus did not have a bad side… I’m not sure there was ever a bad picture of her. Thank you Susan for capturing and sharing these (and many more) incredible images of our beloved Truus.
Rest in peace to the in once in a lifetime mare Truus van het Houkumhuis💔 You will always be remembered! It was an honor to know her, be in her presence daily, ride her, and raise her foals with her (well… the little she allowed us near them at first).
Thank you Dr. Lacey for everything from breeding, foaling out (especially this one since Truus was a very protective mare), caring for Truus during her highs and lows and being there for her until the very end.
