The time has come to start crafting our own ear butts. To mitigate supply issues, I have ordered reference materials. We will accumulate a reserve of items for small tasks by next year. I appreciate the advice and support of otherlocal taxidermists and finding support through Michigan State Taxidermy Association.

He's on the cusp of completion, requiring just a few more days of drying before the finish work begins. The client is providing his own unique pieces at pickup, but I tried my own personal style.

Rest assured, Curt, everything will be removed prior to pickup. Through trial and error, I've had the opportunity to explore different ideas. It's clear why other taxidermists charge a premium for these pieces compared to traditional shoulder mounts.

A thought for the early season youth hunt is that the head may require modifications. In this instance, the neck circumference was suitable for September, but the deer was mature with a longer face. The supplier did not have a proportioned size manikin. I had to either replace the head and integrate the neck or extend the eye to nose. Given the neck's good fit, I opted to extend the eye to nose. I drilled holes in both pieces and filled them in with bondo, epoxy, and clay.
