Is your older cat suddenly eating nonstop but still losing weight? 🐱⚠️

Many cat owners assume this is just a normal part of aging, but it can actually be a sign of a very common disease seen in senior cats. Left unchecked, it may even begin affecting the heart, kidneys, and overall quality of life.

In this reel, I’m discussing some of the subtle warning signs I look for as a veterinarian, why these changes happen, and how we commonly help manage the condition so cats can continue living happy, healthy lives. 🩺❤️

If your cat has had changes in appetite, weight, behavior, or coat quality, this is definitely something you’ll want to watch.

Why do dogs eat grass? 🐶🌱

Many pet owners think it’s harmless, but grass eating can actually irritate your dog’s digestive tract. Dogs cannot properly digest grass, and the sharp blades may cause irritation to the stomach and intestines, often leading to vomiting, gagging, or GI upset.

While some dogs may do it out of boredom, habit, anxiety, or stomach discomfort, it’s important to try to discourage excessive grass eating and redirect the behavior when possible. Also remember that lawns may contain pesticides, fertilizers, w**d killers, or parasites that can be harmful to pets.

Keeping your dog mentally stimulated, well exercised, and on a balanced diet can help reduce the urge to graze. 🩺🐾

I have always loved zoos and the incredible role they play in conservation, education, and protecting endangered wildlife for future generations. Reading about the passing of Happy, the beloved Asian elephant at the Bronx Zoo, was truly emotional. 💔🐘

As a veterinarian, I deeply admire the dedication, compassion, and expertise required to care for extraordinary animals like Happy throughout their lives. Animals like her do far more than inspire visitors — they help educate millions of people about conservation, habitat preservation, and the importance of protecting vulnerable species around the world.

Happy’s life touched countless people and served as a reminder of the deep intelligence, emotion, and beauty elephants possess. Her legacy will continue through the awareness and appreciation she brought to wildlife conservation efforts everywhere.

Thank you to the caretakers, veterinarians, and conservation teams who devoted themselves to her care and to protecting wildlife every single day. ❤️

Minor cuts, scrapes, hot spots, irritated skin, or healing areas can be so uncomfortable for our pets 🐾 As a veterinarian, I’m always looking for gentle ways to help support the skin’s natural healing process, and one of my favorite things to keep on hand is doTERRA After Sun Spray ☀️

I love using it directly on minor wounds or spraying it onto a cotton ball first and gently applying it to the area. It helps soothe irritated skin and supports healthy healing while keeping the area feeling refreshed and comfortable. I’ve seen so many pets heal beautifully with this simple addition to their care routine.

Always monitor wounds closely and contact your veterinarian if there is swelling, discharge, odor, pain, or if the wound is deep or worsening. 🩺

It’s hard watching our pets slow down as they age 💔… but aging isn’t always the only reason.

Painful dental disease, bacteria from decaying teeth, vision changes, and other underlying health issues can all affect your pet’s energy, mobility, and quality of life. As a veterinarian, I always encourage pet owners to look deeper and not assume “they’re just getting old.”

Regular dental care, wellness exams, and early intervention can make a huge difference in helping our pets stay comfortable and happy for as long as possible. 🐾

Healing takes time… but I truly believe supporting the body from the inside AND outside can make such a difference. 💛

After my carpal tunnel surgery, I focused on supporting my recovery naturally with topical applications of castor oil, Frankincense, and Copaiba. I applied them consistently to the area and I’m so happy with how beautifully the scar healed. 🙌

I also believe my overall wellness routine played a huge role in recovery — including targeted supplementation and the MetaPWR Advantage system to support cellular energy, metabolism, and healing from within.

As both a veterinarian and someone passionate about wellness, I love combining supportive natural tools with proper medical care to help the body do what it was designed to do: heal. ✨

Lately in practice, I’ve been seeing an increasing number of pets diagnosed with endocrine (hormonal) diseases. These conditions can develop slowly and the signs are often subtle at first, which is why early recognition is so important.

Some of the more common endocrine diseases we see in dogs and cats include:

• Addison’s Disease
• Cushing’s Disease
• Diabetes
• Thyroid Disease (Hypothyroidism & Hyperthyroidism)

Because hormones affect nearly every system in the body, symptoms can show up in many different ways. Signs to watch for may include:

🐾 Increased thirst or urination
🐾 Changes in appetite
🐾 Weight gain or weight loss
🐾 Panting excessively
🐾 Hair loss or skin changes
🐾 Recurrent infections
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhea
🐾 Low energy or weakness
🐾 Restlessness or behavior changes
🐾 Muscle loss or a pot-bellied appearance

Many pet owners assume these changes are “just aging,” but hormonal diseases are very real medical conditions that often can be managed successfully when caught early.

You know your pet better than anyone. If something feels off — even if you can’t quite explain it — trust your instincts and call your veterinarian. Early testing and diagnosis can make a tremendous difference in your pet’s quality of life and long-term health. ❤️🐾

🩺 MY VETERINARY PERSPECTIVE ON TEA TREE OIL & PETS (Part 4)

Tea Tree oil should not automatically create fear…
…but it also should never be treated casually around pets.

Essential oils can absolutely be supportive tools when used correctly. The key is:
✔️ proper dilution
✔️ high-quality oils
✔️ species-specific safety
✔️ individualized guidance

As veterinarians, we always have to consider:
▪️ the pet
▪️ the condition
▪️ the dose
▪️ the route of exposure
▪️ and whether there may be a safer alternative available

For many pet households, there are gentler options that can provide similar support with far less risk.

My biggest recommendation:
Never use essential oils on your pets based solely on internet advice or DIY trends. Work with a veterinarian knowledgeable in essential oil safety and integrative care.

Our goal should always be to support our pets safely, thoughtfully, and responsibly. 🐾
