Hey guys! It’s Rachel! 😊

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that I’ll be out of the salon starting today (7/30) through August 9th visiting family.

The girls have everything covered while I’m away and will be holding down the fort! ❤️ If you have any questions about your appointment, please reach out through our scheduling software, and they’ll be happy to help.

I’ll still be checking in on calls and messages here and there, but I’ll mostly be spending this time with family. Thank you all for your patience, and I’ll see everyone when I get back! 🐾

One of my wonderful clients is trying to help sweet Chase from Darlington County Humane Society! 🐾❤️ Chase is in urgent need of a home, and he’s entered in a fundraiser where the winning pet gets featured on Wild Heart Brewing’s Rescue Brew can for the year!

Every $1 vote goes directly to the shelter, so if you can spare a dollar—or even just share the link—it would mean so much. Let’s help Chase get the spotlight he deserves! 🫶🏼🐶

🐾 Pup of the Month – Meet Gunner! 🐾

When I started Pup of the Month, my hope was simple, to spread a little kindness, one dog at a time. Every nomination has reminded me just how much our dogs mean to us, and Gunner’s story is one that truly touched my heart.

This handsome 7-year-old Boykin Spaniel has been through more than most dogs ever should.

Over the years, Gunner has battled ongoing skin issues that require constant care, multiple veterinary visits, allergy injections, medications, and daily treatments. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also involved in a serious car accident two years ago, leaving him with a leg injury that never fully healed. His curls make it difficult to keep his skin and leg treated, making grooming more than just cosmetic—it helps him stay comfortable and allows his family to care for him properly.

Stories like this are exactly why I wanted to start this series.

Today, Gunner received his Pup of the Month makeover! 💙 We gave him a comfortable trim that will make applying his medications much easier while being mindful of every bump, sensitive spot, and his old injury. My goal wasn’t just to send home a handsome dog, it was to make life a little easier for both Gunner and his family.

Thank you for trusting me with your sweet boy. I hope this groom brings him some comfort and helps with his healing journey.

Everyone, help me congratulate Gunner, our very first Pup of the Month! 🐶💙

A Friendly Reminder About Late Cancellations & Appointment Reminders 🐾

I wanted to take a moment to explain why our cancellation policy is so important.

Our automated confirmation and reminder texts are provided as a courtesy to our clients. While they work the vast majority of the time, technology isn’t perfect. Occasionally, a reminder may not be delivered due to software issues, phone carrier delays, spam filters ( please check this one) or other factors outside of our control.

For that reason, not receiving a reminder does not cancel or change a scheduled appointment. We encourage all clients to keep track of appointments once they are booked.

Our salon operates on a one groomer, one dog scheduling model. That means each appointment time is reserved exclusively for your pet. Unlike businesses that can simply move to the next customer, when an appointment is cancelled at the last minute, there is often not enough time to fill that spot.

A late cancellation doesn’t just leave an empty space in our schedule, it directly impacts our income. Imagine arriving at work only to be told that you’ll have a two- or three-hour gap in your day and won’t be paid for that time. That’s the reality for groomers when appointments are cancelled too late to be filled.

Our cancellation policy is not a surprise. Every client reviews and agrees to our Service Agreement before booking with us, where our cancellation and no-show policies are clearly outlined. These policies exist to protect the time of our groomers, the sustainability of our small business, and the clients who are waiting for appointments.

We completely understand that emergencies and unexpected situations happen, and we always try to handle those with compassion. However, we also ask for the same respect in return. We should not be made to feel guilty for enforcing policies that were communicated and agreed to in advance. Consistently applying those policies is the only fair way to treat every client equally.

We genuinely appreciate the overwhelming majority of our clients who respect our time, understand the value of reserved appointment slots, and support our small business. Your kindness and understanding allow us to continue providing the individualized, one-on-one care that every pet deserves. ❤️🐾

Don’t forget about our pup of the month program! We’ll be selecting our first recipient tonight!

💕 Introducing: Pup of the Month! 💕

Over the past few years, I’ve been incredibly blessed by the support this community has shown my small business. Lately, I’ve been thinking about more ways I can give back.

Many of you know I already donate my time where I can. But I thought this might be a fun new way to give back. You all got me to where I am. I want to return the favor🫶🏻

Each month, I’ll be selecting one local dog to receive a completely FREE grooming makeover! 🐶✨

This isn’t about who “deserves” it the most—because everyone has a story. It’s simply about spreading a little kindness, one dog at a time. I can’t take full credit for the idea, Miss Bridgit ( you’ve more than likely seen her creative grooms) gave us the idea🫶🏻

Whether it’s a matted makeover, a creative grooming transformation, or simply a bath and tidy-up for someone who could use a helping hand, I’m excited to give back in a meaningful way. 🎨🛁

To enter:
🐾 Tell me about you and your dog in the comments.

🐾 Share your story. Maybe you’ve been through a difficult season, you’re caring for a loved one, finances have been tight, or your dog has been your greatest source of comfort. Or perhaps you’d like to nominate someone else who could use a little extra kindness.

🐾 If you’re nominating someone, tell me why you think they should be chosen.

At the end of each month, I’ll read every story and choose one that speaks to my heart.

Please remember to be kind and respectful in the comments. Everyone’s journey is different, and my hope is that this becomes a place filled with compassion, encouragement, and positivity.

I can’t wait to read your stories and hopefully make a difference—one groom at a time. ❤️✨

Over the last couple of months, I’ve welcomed quite a few new clients who came to me after unfortunate experiences elsewhere. Because of that, I felt it was time to make my usual twice-a-year post.

One of the biggest things I’ve always tried to educate pet owners about is this:

The grooming industry is NOT regulated.

There is no universal licensing requirement or governing body that determines who can call themselves a dog groomer. Becoming a groomer is largely self-directed, which means it’s up to each individual to decide whether this is simply a job… or a career they’re committed to mastering.

Every day, new grooming salons seem to pop up. Most groomers have probably heard someone say, “Wow, you charge $XX for a dog that small? I should switch careers.”

What many people don’t see is everything that goes into earning those prices when you’re doing things the right way.

For me personally, it took six years of grooming under multiple mentors, attending seminars every year, taking private classes, earning certifications, and constantly continuing my education before I felt confident enough to open my own salon and responsibly care for my clients. And heck, I still have so much to learn.

Is that everyone’s path? Of course not.

But that’s what I felt was necessary before taking on the responsibility.

People often think grooming is “just a haircut” or “just a bath.”

It isn’t.

Every appointment requires knowledge, patience, and attention to detail because mistakes can have real consequences.

Something as simple as using a comb at the wrong angle near delicate skin can cause a serious cut.

Improper brushing technique can lead to painful brush burn.

Using a high-velocity dryer incorrectly can cause discomfort or burns.

Choosing the wrong blade or clip for the wrong coat type can damage the coat and affect healthy regrowth.

Even something as basic as improperly diluted shampoo can contribute to skin irritation and other dermatological issues.

One concern I’ve noticed more frequently lately is the trend of rushed apprenticeships.

Teaching someone to groom safely isn’t just about showing them how to hold clippers. It means taking the time to thoroughly teach bathing techniques, drying methods, brushing, coat preparation, tool maintenance, clipper and blade safety, canine anatomy, behavior and body language, proper handling and restraint, skin and coat health, sanitation, and knowing when to stop or ask for help.

These are skills that simply cannot be rushed.

An apprentice who is pushed onto dogs before they’re truly ready increases the risk of accidents—whether that’s a cut, skin irritation, unnecessary stress, fear surrounding grooming, or even serious injury.

I understand that lengthy apprenticeships aren’t the most profitable approach. Training someone well takes time, patience, and resources.

But every dog that walks through our doors deserves someone who is fully prepared to care for them, not someone who is still learning at their expense.

Whether you’re a groomer, salon owner, or mentor, we have a responsibility to our clients—both human and canine—to prioritize education over speed and quality over quantity.

At the end of the day, every dog deserves to leave the salon not only looking their best, but feeling safe, comfortable, and cared for. That’s what professional grooming should always be about.

The moment you decide there’s nothing left to learn is the moment you’ve stopped growing.

No groomer will ever know everything, and that’s okay. The best groomers never stop learning. They seek out education, ask questions, refine their skills, and remain humble enough to know there’s always something new to improve on.

Because when you’re responsible for the health, safety, and trust of someone’s pet, continuing your education isn’t optional, it’s part of being a professional.

The moment you decide there’s nothing left to learn, you’ve already failed.
