Morgan Co., Alabama, Humane Society

Morgan Co., Alabama, Humane Society For over two decades, we’ve been a beacon of hope for animals in need, thanks to the love and generosity of people like you. Join us in making a difference,

Together, we’ve created North Alabama’s first No-Kill shelter—a safe haven for countless animals. The Morgan County Humane Society is affliated with the Humane Society of the United States and follows the standards set forth by their organization. Please view their website at www.hsus.org

The Morgan County Humane Society is a non-profit organization exempt from Federal taxes under section 501 (c)

(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are permitted to accept tax-deductible gifts from donors. The goal of the Morgan County Humane Society is to provide animal control and shelter services to all animals, both domestic and wild. We realize there is a need for these services for at least one-half of the citizens of the county, especially in the rural areas. We wish to start a low-cost spay/neuter program to control pet overpopulation and provide public education for animal care issues that will enhance the quality of life for both pet owners and the animals. We are located at 86 Gum Springs Cut-Off Road near the geographic center of the county in order to be equally accessible to all citizens. We are currently in need of volunteers for facility fundraising and animal care issues. We already have a core of trained staff for animal care and a permanent Board of Directors. We would welcome any input from the community especially donations of funding or other considerations from both corporate and private individuals.

🐶💩 What Your Dog’s Stool Can Reveal

Your dog’s stool can provide valuable clues about their digestive health and overall well-being. Paying attention to changes in color, consistency, and frequency can help identify potential concerns early.

🤎 Light Brown Is Usually Normal
Light brown stool is generally considered healthy and often indicates that digestion and diet are functioning as expected.

⚫ Black Stool Deserves Attention
Very dark or black stool can sometimes be linked to dietary factors, but it may also indicate digested blood. Persistent changes should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

⚪ White Stool May Signal a Problem
White or unusually pale stool can be associated with issues involving the liver, bile ducts, or certain infections. Professional veterinary advice is recommended.

🟠 Orange Stool Can Reflect Dietary Changes
Orange-colored stool may result from specific foods or pigments in the diet. If the color persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, further evaluation may be necessary.

🔘 Gray Stool Should Not Be Ignored
Gray stool can sometimes be connected to pancreatic concerns or difficulties with fat absorption. Monitoring and veterinary guidance are important.

🔴 Bloody Stool Requires Immediate Attention
The presence of blood in stool may indicate intestinal irritation, parasites, infection, or other serious health conditions. Prompt veterinary assessment is essential.

📋 Monitor More Than Color
Consistency, frequency, and your dog’s behavior are equally important indicators of health. Sudden changes can provide useful information about your pet’s condition.

✨ Regular observation of your dog’s digestive habits can support early detection of potential health issues. Combined with routine veterinary care, this simple habit can contribute to a healthier and happier life for your canine companion.

Many dog owners are familiar with sudden bursts of energy commonly known as “zoomies,” when dogs race around the house or yard at high speed with seemingly endless excitement. These energetic moments often occur after playtime, baths, or periods of rest and are considered a normal behavior in healthy dogs. While the unexpected sprinting can create a little chaos, it is usually a sign of happiness, excitement, and a release of pent-up energy that helps dogs stay mentally and physically active.

Animal behavior experts explain that zoomies, formally known as Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPs), are a natural way for dogs to express enthusiasm and relieve excess energy. Although they may leave owners dodging paws and protecting furniture, these playful outbursts often become some of the funniest and most memorable moments of pet ownership, highlighting the joyful and carefree spirit that makes dogs such beloved companions.

🐜🌿 Natural Ant Repellents for Your Home

Ants can be persistent visitors, especially during warmer months. Fortunately, several natural ingredients may help discourage them from entering your home while reducing reliance on harsh chemicals.

🍶 Vinegar + Water
A simple mixture of vinegar and water can help disrupt scent trails that ants use to navigate and communicate.

🌸 Cloves + Dried Lavender
These strongly scented ingredients are often used as natural deterrents around entry points and problem areas.

🧄 Paprika + Minced Garlic
Their strong aroma may help make certain areas less attractive to ants.

🌿 Mint + Ground Cinnamon
Many people use these fragrant ingredients to create a natural barrier along windows, doors, and cracks.

🥒 Cucumber Peel + Dried Oregano
This combination is commonly included in home remedies designed to discourage ant activity.

🚪 Focus on Entry Points
Apply natural repellents near doors, windows, baseboards, and any visible ant trails.

🔄 Refresh Regularly
Natural remedies may need to be reapplied every few days to maintain their effectiveness.

🧹 Keep Surfaces Clean
Removing crumbs, food residue, and standing water can significantly reduce what attracts ants indoors.

✨ Natural solutions can be a practical addition to a clean and well-maintained home. Combining good housekeeping habits with simple repellents can help create an environment that is less inviting to unwanted pests.

🐶💛 Understanding Your Dog Better

Dogs communicate with us every day through their body language and behavior. Learning to recognize these signals can help strengthen trust, improve communication, and create a more positive relationship.

🐾 Gentle Licks
When a dog gives gentle licks, it is often more than a sign of affection. This behavior can express trust, comfort, and a desire for connection.

👃 Licking Their Nose
A quick nose lick is not always related to food. It can sometimes indicate stress, uncertainty, or mild discomfort in a situation.

🎾 Play Bow
When a dog lowers its front legs while keeping its rear up, it is usually an invitation to play. This friendly gesture encourages interaction and social bonding.

🐕 High, Stiff Tail
A tail held high and stiff often signals alertness. The dog is focused on its surroundings and paying close attention to what is happening nearby.

🤝 Turning Their Head Away
Looking away is not necessarily a sign of ignoring someone. It can be a calming signal that shows a need for space or an attempt to avoid tension.

💙 Every gesture tells a story. By understanding these everyday signals, pet owners can build a stronger bond with their dogs and better support their emotional well-being.

There is a long history of assigning symbolic meanings to different feline coat colors and facial patterns.
1. Tuxedo cats represent a connection to intellectual depth and the quiet sharing of wisdom.
2. Ginger cats are traditionally welcomed into homes to help attract abundance and a sense of vibrant prosperity.
3. Grey cats act as a conduit for bringing deep, steady harmony and peace into the daily lives of their owners.
4. Identifying these patterns helps many people reflect on the unique temperament their specific pet brings to the home.
5. Keeping these traditions in mind adds a layer of depth to the bond between human and animal.
Each cat brings a distinct personality that seems to align beautifully with these timeless legends.

For many pet owners, time spent with their dog is more valuable than any form of entertainment or technology. The simple moments sharing a quiet evening, feeling a warm presence nearby, or receiving a joyful greeting at the end of the day often become some of life’s most meaningful memories. Dogs have a unique ability to bring comfort, companionship, and unconditional love, reminding people to slow down and appreciate the present rather than becoming distracted by the fast pace of modern life.

Research suggests that strong relationships with pets can improve emotional well-being, reduce stress, and increase feelings of happiness and connection. These benefits often encourage owners to cherish everyday interactions and create lasting memories with their animals. While a dog’s time with us may feel far too short, the bond they leave behind can have a lifelong impact, making every shared moment feel truly priceless.

Due to the overwhelming dog surrenders and the number of roaming dogs/puppies picked up by animal control daily, most dogs that end up in public shelters have poor outcomes! If you adopt a dog, please make a commitment for the lifetime of the dog, not until... 🐾💕😊🐶💯
