If our pastures were full of cattle like this old gal there'd be a lot less need for replacement heifers! Year after year she calves, I believe she's 20 years old, or pretty close. One thing I will say is she's gotten a tad friendlier in her old age! We'll find out just how tame later when I tag the calf. Just maybe I won't have to run for my life. 😅

Man how genetics are a crazy thing! 🧬

I knew the cow was close to calving but was gone Sunday afternoon and evening for family pictures in South Dakota. Got home about 12:45 A.M. in a pretty good down pour. Went straight to the chicks to make sure they all had water and feed. Then headed to the barn and checked the cows. And low and behold the one little cow had something hanging out her rear end. Thought I had better go change my clothes before I go looking for a calf, I've learned its better to keep your nice Sunday clothes free of manure stains! 😅 So headed to the house and was getting changed then wouldn't ya know a thunderstorm warning was issued. So I hurried outside in the lull before it hit. I figured she had, had the calf already so I ran to the pasture to find what I would have guessed would have been a black calf. Well you guessed it definitely wasn't black. So carried it to the barn and bedded em down good and called it a night.

The little cow probably has 3 different breeds in her (she's a mutton but was a bottle calf.) 2 of them being black and the bull is black out of black stock. Just have to get your punnet square out and maybe we can figure it all out! 😅

What a full and blessed weekend it’s been around here! ❤️

We spent the weekend getting the coop all cleaned out and ready for our newest batch of chicks 🐥 The peeping in the coop means summer farm life is officially underway!

Then early Sunday morning, we were welcomed by this sweet new heifer calf 🐮 There’s just something special about new life on the farm that never gets old.

To top it all off, we also got to celebrate our amazing senior youth group kids at church as they graduate and head into their next chapter 🎓 We loved getting to attend grad parties and cheer them on. So proud of each of them and excited to see what God has in store for their futures!

It was one of those weekends that leaves you exhausted but incredibly thankful. Full hearts, muddy boots, and lots of memories made. ❤️

Momma did her job, and this little one hit the ground ready to take on the world. Around here, we believe good cattle start with good care, strong genetics, and long days doing things the right way.
