This is one of the busiest—and sadly, one of the scariest—weeks of the year for our pets.

Every year, loving families are desperately searching for dogs that became frightened by fireworks and ran away. Please don't let your pet become one of them.

A few simple precautions can make all the difference:

🐾 Keep pets indoors during fireworks—even if they're normally outside.

🐾 Double-check fences, gates, kennel latches, and crate doors.

🐾 Make sure collars fit properly and ID tags have your current phone number.

🐾 If you have a GPS tracker, this is the perfect week to use it.

🐾 Walk dogs early in the day before the fireworks begin.

🐾 Create a quiet, safe place inside with a TV, fan, or calming music to help drown out the noise.

🐾 Never assume your pet "has never been bothered before." It only takes one loud boom to send even the calmest dog into panic mode.

Even though there are laws about when fireworks can be used, we all know they often start days before the holiday and continue long after.

Keep Your Pets Safe This Fourth of July!

Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be frightening for our pets. Loud noises and flashing lights can cause even the calmest dogs and cats to panic, increasing the risk of injuries or pets escaping from home.

If your pet has a history of anxiety during fireworks, please contact us as soon as possible if you think they may benefit from a sedative or anti-anxiety medication. We recommend requesting medications well before the holiday, as appointments and prescription requests increase significantly this time of year.

A few additional tips to help keep your pet safe:
- Keep pets indoors in a secure, quiet room during fireworks.
- Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date, and verify that your pet's microchip information is current.
- Close windows, draw the curtains, and play calming music or turn on the TV to help mask outside noise.
- Double-check doors, gates, and fences before guests arrive, as frightened pets may try to escape.
