To change minds, awakening awareness of the importance of horticulture and the environment to the development of a healthy city, and providing people with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a difference. To enable people to act on their beliefs in the importance of a healthier and more beautiful city by providing technical and physical support and access to other resources. T

o take action on behalf of the city and its residents carrying out projects that require our special resources and capabilities. To work cooperatively with other towns and organizations in the Greater Hartford area to promote the mission of KNOX.

Trees bring significant benefits to Hartford!

☁️ Trees Improve the Air Quality: Hartford has one of the highest rates of asthma-related emergency department visits and hospitalizations in Connecticut. Trees improve respiratory illnesses like asthma and COPD by cleaning the air.

🌡️ Trees Lower the Temperature: In the summer, Hartford can be up to 19 degrees hotter than the surrounding cities and towns. Shade trees, which are the free trees Hartford is offering residents, can provide a 20-45 degree heat reduction.

💧 Trees Reduce Flooding: During storms, the sewer system is overwhelmed and often causes combined sewer overflows of untreated stormwater-sewage mix to enter our streets and basements. Trees prevent 1,551,776 gallons of rainwater from entering our sewers and flooding our streets.
