I was downstairs this morning cleaning cages before work and had one of those moments where I realized how different reptiles are from most things people chase today.

Everything now is about speed. Faster results, faster growth, faster money, faster attention.

Reptiles really don’t work that way.

You can’t rush growth. You can’t shortcut years of consistency. You can’t force animals onto your timeline just because you want something faster.

I think that’s why a lot of people burn out. They come into reptiles thinking mostly about breeding, sales, or becoming a “big breeder” without realizing how much of this is really just showing up every day and doing the work whether you feel like it or not.

What’s funny is that I think that’s also the part I appreciate the most now. There’s something calming about the routine of it all. Cleaning, feeding, checking animals, paying attention to small things most people would never notice.

At this point, I think reptiles have probably taught me more about patience and consistency than anything else in my life.

If you enjoy these kinds of conversations beyond just showing snakes, that’s a lot of what I share on my Patreon.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions in reptiles is that you need the biggest collection, the rarest animals, or the newest morph to really build something meaningful.

Most of the people who actually last in this hobby long term usually aren’t the ones chasing every new thing. They’re the ones who stay consistent, genuinely enjoy the animals, and slowly build projects with purpose over time.

I’ve seen people with very average animals build incredible collections and businesses simply because they had patience, integrity, and a long-term mindset. I’ve also seen people spend huge money trying to shortcut the process and disappear a couple years later because they never actually enjoyed the work behind it.

At the end of the day, reptiles are still living animals. They don’t care how fast you want results, how much money you spent, or what trend is popular right now. They reward consistency more than almost anything else.

I think that’s part of what keeps me interested in them after all these years. They force you to slow down and think differently.

If you enjoy these kinds of conversations beyond just “look at this snake,” that’s a lot of what I share on my Patreon.

One thing reptiles force you to learn is patience.

There really isn’t a shortcut around it.

Animals grow at the speed they grow. Pairings happen when they happen. Projects take years to fully develop. A lot of this hobby is delayed gratification, which is probably why so many people burn out trying to rush through it.

What’s funny is that the older I get, the more I appreciate that part of it.

There’s something calming about working with animals that really do not care how fast you want things to happen. They force you to slow down, stay consistent, and think long term whether you want to or not.

I think that’s part of why reptiles have always helped balance me mentally. They pull you out of the constant pressure to move faster and remind you that some things simply take time.

A lot of people fight that in the beginning. Eventually you realize that’s actually the whole point.

One thing I’ve realized over the years is that reptiles were never really just about reptiles for me.

A lot of people probably assume this is mostly business for me now because of how much I talk about breeding, projects, ROI, and long-term strategy. This was a hobby long before it became a business for me, and I think that’s a big reason why I still genuinely enjoy it.

I wake up around 4 every morning and some of my favorite hours of the day are downstairs with the animals before the rest of the world wakes up. Cleaning cages, checking water, feeding, observing little changes. At this point it’s repetitive enough that I don’t even really think about the physical work anymore. It gives me time to think clearly and honestly brings a level of peace that’s hard to explain unless you keep reptiles yourself.

What’s interesting is that the more successful this has become as a business, the more careful I’ve had to be protecting the part of it that I actually enjoy. I’ve had opportunities to scale this much larger, but I also know that if this ever became ONLY business and stopped being something I genuinely enjoyed, eventually the business side starts influencing decisions in ways that are not always best for the animals.

At the end of the day, these are still living animals first.

I think a lot of people rush into reptiles trying to become breeders or businesses before they even slow down enough to enjoy the hobby itself. Ironically, the people who genuinely love the animals and the process are usually the ones who last the longest anyway.

That’s probably not talked about enough in this hobby.

I’ve got some incredible stuff getting ready to hit the website soon.

If there’s something you’ve been thinking about, now’s the time to reach out. If you grab one before I have to photograph, post, and list everything, I’m willing to make some extra deals to save myself the time and effort.

Also, if you’ve had your eye on something already on the website, I’m motivated to move some things and make room, so don’t be afraid to ask. There are some seriously high quality picks sitting there for absolutely no reason other than the right person hasn’t found them yet.

A lot of these won’t last once they get in front of more people. Let’s get them into the right homes.

A lot of people want the result…

without really appreciating the process that creates it.

The clean pairings.
The nice animals.
The successful projects.

What they usually don’t see is how repetitive most of this actually is.

Cleaning.
Observing.
Adjusting small things over time.

That’s where almost all of the progress comes from.

Not huge breakthroughs.

Just paying attention consistently for a long time.

That’s also why patience matters so much more than most people realize.
