Attention Arkansas cattle producers!

Be on the lookout for unusual ticks. We have reports of Asian longhorned ticks in Northwest Arkansas. The invasive tick can transmit the Theileria orientalis parasite, which attacks blood cells. The Ikeda genotype of this organism can be fatal to cattle. There is no treatment.

If you find a tick that doesn't look familiar, take it to your county agent and bring all the info you can about when you found it, what animal it's from, and what pastures the animal was in. The best action to take is prevention. Try following these steps:

πŸ‘‰Use insecticidal ear tags or using insecticide-infused back rubbers cattle can walk under
πŸ‘‰Keep pastures clipped
πŸ‘‰Fence off wooded areas

Read the full story with a link to photos of the ticks on our website and contact your county agent for more detailed advice and resources. https://www.uaex.uada.edu/media-resources/news/2022/june/06-28-2022-ark-theileria-cattle.aspx

One inch of rainfall creates approximately 623 gallons of water falling on a 1,000-square foot roof. Slow it down and soak it in!

Low Impact Development (or LID) are methods and techniques that are used to slow down, spread out and soak in stormwater on site. Incorporating these practices reduces the amount of stormwater leaving your property and slows it down.

Reducing the speed and volume of water helps protects the receiving streams and minimize erosion. On the reverse-side, there are options that may work for your home to help slow down, soak in or spread out stormwater as it flows over your property.

Learn more about methods you can implement into your home to help slow the flow ➑ https://www.uaex.uada.edu/environment-nature/water/stormwater/nwastormwater/residential-lid.aspx
